That is very true, in the UK we have many Tiekerhook descendants that are promoted and advertised as working machines with fantastic bites. However for SPORT you want a balanced points dog.
There are many amateurs in the UK who consider themselves experts in GSD, breeding and Schutzhund put funnily enough have yet to prove it on the sports ground as they do not have the skills, knowledge, ability, training and experience to get the best out of their dogs, let alone ones that are beyond their capabilities.

Just my 2 cents:
The scores in the book or the amount of time on the PODIUM really is incidental to whether you have a good dog, I know many dogs with excellent drives for the work and temperment to impress that will never do more then club or regional work. I,ve seen PODIUM dogs that arent worth a crap in a bush. If you look at the pedigree,s of some of the breeds best dogs(producers, police, competitors, ect) more then most you will find Tiekerhook in there when you have breed and produced dogs at that level for that long yes the name means something,That being said you can find good dogs here in the US just make sure you know what you want and research it well.

Thank You for all of the advice. From reading everything I'm getting the feeling that the Tiekerhook dog's are geared more towards the police K9 route versus a Shutzhund points dog. I have worked with super high drive hard headed malinois in the past. Some of them were very challenging to train. Would you say that the Tiekerhook dogs are clear headed or have more of the malinois spun feeling.

Tiekerhook dogs are extreme drive, "crazy drive" sometimes, and high aggression - they are usually on the smaller size, not always the prettiest in structure :) but they are wide-open all the time. Excellent for police, good for Schh but not podium "point" dogs. They can be a handful for sure, but are fun for someone who wants a lot of dog on the end of their leash. Not for everyone, but super for breeding to improve drive, strong temperament, nerve and FIRE in a program.

mcraft,
please don't make opinions and voice them on a public forum without doing your homework. You should see a Tiekerhook dog for yourself.
Getting a trophy is in no way a judgement to be passed on the dog. I don;t want to open a can of worms here by mentioning what kind and level of politics goes on in winning championships. I think you seem to be aware of that.
For starters I suggest you see Max van Tiekerhook's videos of protection and bitework. and judge for yourself. He was second place in Regional in Netherlands.
as far as issues with close linebreeding goes. I have mentioned before a number of times. IF the breeder knows what he is doing then there is no problem in 2-2 breeding also. SV does give permission for that. ITS NOT BANNED BY SV for God's sake!!!!!
See Wolff Van Tiekerhook. I have seen this dog in person he is DNA tested Excellent hips all everything. He is 2-2 linebred.
If the dog does not have a genetic bite you cannot train him to do that. With change of handlers it will go. So a level of aggression is needed even in sports.
I suggest please see the dogs and meet the folks before making public judgements. You may intentionally or unintentionally ruin someone's reputation built over a lifetime and great efforts
And lastly Tiekerhooks dogs are not insanely driven. They cannot be made house pets for sure but they very well balanced tempramentally & yes there is definitely an above average aggression levels in them.
cheers and all the best

Email Suzanne at Braveheart German Shepherds in texas. She and her husband own Fergus V Tiekerhook and Koos sent Gina v Tiekerhook over for a while to breed to fergus. Ask how her pups are doing. they would be around a year old. Very nice people.

Tiekerhook is Tiekerhook is Tiekerhook there are by far many kennels out there producing just as nice dogs! Only difference is??? Tiekerhook is one of the popular kids on the block, and happens to be located in a country where Koos can produce the contraversial 2-2 breedings having a little more free reign so to speak on his breeding program. If its stats that your after go look at the BSP, WUSV, LGA's, FCI, DM, etc.... and do the math of how many Tiekerhook dogs are scooping up the points.
Don't get me wrong by any means I am a Nick and Max fan by far and have had my very own Max breeding, but the moral is there are lots of kennels producing just as nice dogs just got to figure out what you want.

Runfast, that is what I meant in my post above. But the OG did ask specifically about this kennel. I don't disagree with you that's for sure. My dog is part Tekerhook. How old is your max breeding and what are they showing?

Runfast, can you recommend some kennels here in the US that produce equal quality dogs. I will look into the stats as well.

mcraft950 you sound very confused on this post. What traits are you looking for in a German Shepherd? Do you know? Many kennels have already been suggested to you (ie. Dean Calderon and Braveheart Shepherds). Not sure this is the dog from you from what it sounds like.
So perhaps you should know what traits you are looking for and select a kennel based on this instead.
