Yasko and many others like him are not pets, they are big business and only a means to make money.
The really disgusting fact is that most of the people who purchase these high profile dogs are already wealthy beyond what most of us could even imagine. They don't need the dogs for even more money. Look--dogs such as Yasko (and certainly not poor Kora) may never recover their buyers' investments. So what--then, they do serve as handy tax write-offs--they are depreciated on an annual basis. When Yasko is sold, he will be sold at an enormous loss!
I wonder whatever happened to Kora?
I'm very tempted to fire off a nasty e-mail to Mr. Fleischer!
Hey--don't hold your breath while waiting for answers. But, do let us know what happened to Kora.
Equally at fault are the German sellers. By the time that a Yasko-type dog is sold, either Germany is already saturated with his bloodlines, he hasn't produced the depth of quality hoped for (at least, not proportinate to total progeny/litters sired), produces better females than males, he may have begun to experience fertility problems, etc.

IF you look at Yasko's progeny record, as I did, out of curiosity, I'd have to say both of these are probably true in his case.

Don't worry, you won't hear from Bill you'll hear from his wife Evy. She's the one who dictates all of Bill's emails. I've been to their place a few years ago and they don't even keep a dog at their residence. Most are farmed out and bred to death by dog keepers. Biggest one is in Texas but they are all over the place.
It's all about the money!

To me, the truly unforgiving part of the way these dogs are passed from hand-to-hand is that, if they were offered at a reasonable price after they have served their pennence for being top quality or, as 4pack said, gifted to a deserving family, they would all find loving homes. On this board alone there would be a line miles long volunteering to make them pets for the remainder or their lives. As it is, pricing them out of the reach of the average dog lover makes us all feel very helpless and sad wishing we could find a way to help save them all. Maybe Yasko will be one of the lucky ones that will find a loving forever home. I truly wish I could buy him too. It must be hell for a GSD to not have his own person to bond with.

this is what happens to my females when they are retired from breeding - for the top price of $00,000.00 they are consigned to living the rest of their lives, loved and cherished for the wonderful dogs they are, learning what it means to be spoiled rotten and cared for into their elderly years. How it should be for all of them. This is one of my retired "broodbitches" in her forever home - Cora v Granit Rose Schh1 -

Molly:
That's awesome about your retired brood bitch! This post has truly depressed me (and infuriated me). So sad! I was glad to read a happy ending though with your Cora. If only all retired dogs were so lucky.

Ah, but dear Blitzen, do you have an almighty estate? After all, these dogs are marketed as "estate dogs"!! Look at Rapi Supra, he has been for sale for some time and touted as such.
So far, all of my retired dogs do stay in their "forever homes"--with me! They will only be replaced by attrition. However, even though it would be a bit crowded, I could definitely make room for Yasko--not as a conspicuous consumption status symbol either.
Here, he would always receive love as well as the best diet and veterinary care possible. Yes, I do have a soft spot in my heart for those Ursus sons and their wonderful personalities! Bill lives just an hour NE from me. I wouldn't blink an eye if he were to offer Yasko to me for free. I'd gladly drive to Granite Bay to pick him up....
Hey, Bill, are you out there? Give me a buzz!

All of my retired dogs ARE so lucky - I wouldn't have it any other way. How it should be with ALL older retired "breeders" - they should either stay with their owners IF the owner can provide the couch, the individual attention, exercise and extra-special care they deserve, OR go to a home where they will get it.

Yea Bill is less than an hour south of me too. I talked to him on the phone a couple times, considered using one of his dogs for stud. He seemed all business and not much for talking "dogs". He did offer to drive my female himself, to TX free of charge, if I did use one of his dogs.
I just lost my dog and I have a little girl who would love a fancy show line dog, to tout about the neighborhood.
Since they write the dogs off as a loss can't they just gift it anyway, like some people do to the police force? Granite Bay...like he needs the money! Some people should be ashamed of themselves.
Give Yasko a nice couple of years with a loving family who will treat him like gold, not a kennel whore.
Curiosity has me wondering what a dog like this has for temperament or house manners? I wonder if he has ever had a soft bed next to the fireplace? Days off to walk with his master, playing ball and sniffing about? A good roll in the green grass, out front of the mansion his past owners live in?
I know he must have been well taken care of physically but is he like an alien, poked and prodded and then put away when they are done with him?

So sad.... With all those kennels associated with Bill Fleischer breeding empire, surely there's ONE of them that would give Yasko a comfortable retirement home??
Grrrrr!!!
