Yes...Like some others have offered....you can use your name incorporated into your kennel name...such as "Von ShastaHaus" or your last name into your kennel name...or something that describes you or your locale or your kennel...But I think I would start with describing your self and you kennel and where you want to go with it...I mean are you wanting to train dogs or breed dogs and if so where do you want to direct you attention to...the USA or Europe or where...and what kind of clientel are you looking at....???...I mean "Showline" or "Workingline"...or "Pets" or "Police" and What price range are you talking about...I think all of this must be taken into account so that your kennel's name is appropriate for those people to notice you and want to buy a dog from you...and/or training...

I suppose I should have clarified, EKvonEarnhardt -  while the Germans do not often use their given name in their kennel name, it is fairly common on American kennels.  In my experience, this is more of an American thing.

That is OK  Altostland  I live in Earnhardt land Kannapolis (Where Dale is from) , off of Earnhardt Rd. So no matter how you look at it.

I always thought " Americans " used silly names like -  Apple pie of our eye or Joey little bugger lover (actually a name)  I guess one size does not fit all.

Rez - you must be a Earnhardt fan?

Yes, big earnhardt fan.   bawled for two weeks after dale died.  I went and visited DEI in Kannapolis a couple of years back.

My dad got my mom and I into it, then I got my husband into it.

lol, it took me months to come up with a name...the top two were Eliezer (pre-spanish inquisition familial name) and Falconara (town my Italian family is from).  Falconara looked prettier on paper O.o

I've seen people mix names and things part of a name and then stone or tree or cliff into one word, I have seen people take big words and use those, pets names, categories, etc...

Do you have any basic ideas of what you are looking at for a name?  We might be able to build off of that :)

LOL it is taking me quite awhile too. There's just so many combinations and I'm looking for the one that just sits right. This would be a kennel name for breeding, These would be working lines, though obviously there may be some lower drive pups in the litters that we would end up selling to pet homes (obviously there are only so many working homes to go around) so we don't want to alienate the pet homes using a word they can't even pronounce (too german or something?). I have a dear friend and business partner who co-owns a female with me, so he and I are working together on this one. We've already tried combinations of our last names and they just don't roll. Birthplaces? not strong enough names. I want something that shows strength and substance, without being too over the top. Then I was thinking of things that could be used to describe both of our hobbies or work outside of dogs. My friend is a firefighter so I thought maybe we take something with fire in it. I'm a dog trainer. Then I am into martial arts, music (piano and singing), and fine literature (mainly classics) and exotic animals (birds of prey, and wolves and the like) (along with a bunch of other stuff of course). I thought Firesong (his job and my love of music) fits, but there's an australian shepherd kennel by the name... (which brings me to the point, when you don't want to use someone else's kennel name, are you meaning within the breed? or even if they're a different breed you shouldn't use it? Then maybe trying to transfer combinations of the words into german, still need something not too hard to pronounce. I couldn't think of anything that combined fire with martial arts:-) And I've gone through several characters from books trying to come up with something but it's just not hitting (even went through a list of shakespearean names). vom Feurlied (too hard to pronounce for the pet people?????? this being firesong in german? or vom Falkefeur (hawk fire? combining my love of birds of prey with his fire? again, how hard to pronounce? (not for me, but for pet people?) I of course would have to go through and see if anyone else has already taken these. I'm just feeling like I"m sitting on the verge but not getting one that totally hits the spot. Favorite dogs names (my friends favorite dog is Johnny Boy) I have Kaos, Maverick, Shasta and Cyrano who were favorite dogs of past or present. it's just not all rolling (meaning rolling off the tongue). Currently we are on the verge of this. I don't want to breed until the dogs are finished with at least a sch3 and OFA'd and the like. I have all working lines (a few different dogs going back through different dogs.... fado, yoschy, orry, cordon an sat, Eick, those are the main dogs that come off the top of my head in the pedigrees of the dogs I'm wanting to breed). But I want to wait, though we'll get there over this next year (waiting for dogs to come of the age of 2 and do the main xray beyond the prelims and finish some titles on the female etc). I just want to get the kennel name decided:-) This thread has brought me a long way towards it, like I said, I feel like it's just on the tip of the tongue....it's infuriating to say the least:-) more ideas?

I have 12 oaks trees on my property, and I thought to use that name but didnt like the sound of it so I translated it to german, sounds much better even tho I dont think I am pronouncing it right. I didnt find a Kennel wit hthat name but after digging for hours and gooogling etc I found a single stable, cart racing I believe ( I dont read german at all lol) hm I wonder if that would be considered an infringment even tho they are 2 totally different type of places?
