Kandi's dog Hawk is also not dog aggressive. My dog is the one who won the AWDF FH championship. In the awards ceremony, my dog Eagle was sitting between a whole line of intact males - on one side about 5 Pitbulls and on the other side, several GSDs. The owner of the GSD next to him was obviously worried (for whatever reason) about Eagle being there - until I noticed her twitching and looking sideways at him, tightening her dogs' leash and shifting her body between the two dogs - then assured her he was not dog aggressive and she stopped worrying. I was not worried, everyone in the award ceremony had their dogs under control and were familier with their dogs' temperaments. No incidents would happen, or it would be very rare (like Gus' incident)

Yes , it is and that the reason for the posting I did for the kid gsdKid,,,,he told us at the beginning , months ago that he wanted to be a trainer....and hes very young and he is wanting to learn the rigth way......so I used this example to show him you have to address any aggression. and his pup is a pup....., but a pup , already growling,,,of course , not being with gdkid , still shouldnt be growling......no excuses.....in the schutzhund ,mag Jan/feb 2005 page 26 a good article for gsdkid to read Behavuour Development in Pupppies by Werner rAPIEN SV WORKING JUDGE...And another article for him to read is Nov/Dec issue on Dominance page 18 and Werner Rapien also has an excellent article on animal behaviour Motive-Emotion-Learning page 28Jan/Feb 2006 issue.....
Gsdkid is a young man about 14 years old,,,am I not right? these articles would benefit him long before telling him his dog has bad nerves....
careful there Jeff....I dont know if Gsdkid plans to do his own handling or not....he has a trainer it looks like.....guess he just needs to read up and know what to expect.....

Years ago one of my male Malamutes decided he did not want to be touched by the judge at an AKC show. In fact he was growling at most everyone who got near him that day. I was shocked and totally unprepared for this behavior since he never before showed any aggression whatsoever. I believe he was around 14 months old at the time. Long story short, that was the first and last time he ever exhibited that sort of behavior. He went to to receive his AKC championship. I never did figure out why he acted that way on that particular day.

I remember the day I went to buy a pup out of Pirol v ENclavehof and was told , as I sat on the picnic bench and all the pups running around, Pirol bounced up on the table next to me....Gary H, said just be careful, please, how you reach toward him......of course, I immediately, put my hands back on the puppies, and ignored a dog, I would have loved to have hugged......I had just seen him do a catch on the sleeve with him and the hills of Alabama rung all around as he hit the sleeve.....so I just was very careful not to do anything to arouse him or cause him to bite me....He followed us to the barn and clubhouse and apparently didnt mind me being there..He did watch me intently , at all times, as I played with the pups...
On the picnic table he did look at me funny and he almost growled, but I guess Gary pick up on it, immediately, and when he spoke, Pirol looked at him instead, and I just took a different avenue....I was about to ask ,,could I pet him,,,,,of course , the answer , was no.....

Yep. Molly is right. Hawk was not on the podium at the AWDF. That was Eagle. Neither is dog aggresive. In fact, they routinely share a hotel room, loose, even whiile we sleep, and have rarely had an incident. Two dominant intact males, mind you. I have no patience for needless growling, especially when on lead. Obedience is obedience.

Kandice
that's not a fair story. You're talking about a dog that came from Molly and probably spent time with Eagle as a pup. Room with a competitor that you don't know and let me know the results.
I was at a club one time and commented that I can't let two females together. The woman, who owned the house where we were training, said, "why not? I let these two females together". I stated that the two females were mother and daughter, and asked why the third female was still in her kennel. She replied, "That dog doesn't get along with my older femal and bitches fight to kill, while males fight until there is an established dominant dog."

Kandi got Hawk when he was 8 weeks old. We didn't start rooming together at trials until our dogs were titled - so each dog didn't "meet" each other until they were fully adult, mature, and at least 5 years old. Neither dog is dog aggressive, both are under the control of their handlers. Same hotel room, dogs are not allowed to "mingle" and they don't play with each other, but they get along in their own spaces, even when the spaces are close to each other, quite nicely. Both strong, dominant, intact male dogs.
