I had a roomba and I forgot to turn it off at the start of the summer and well the fur killed it.
You're kidding!!! OMG, that's HILARIOUS!! Killer fur!! ROTFLOL!

I know people who spin dog hair. I think they combine it with wool. I've seen garments made from Malamute fur and they are quite heavy and waterproof albeit a bit scratchy. If you think you get a lot of coat out of a GSD, you should see the results of combing out a shedding doubled coated Malamute. It would not be unusual to get 3, 4 large garbage bags stuffed full from one grooming session. They dump their coats twice a year and there is a tremendous amount of hair shed in the spring, not so much in the fall. They usually only shed 2 times a year, some once a year if neutered. My GSD's have shed constantly and seem to roll their coats rather than just go bald and then regrow like many other breeds. Must be a survival characteristic

Sunsilver, no I wish I was. the Roomba got so much Fur tangled in to it that it burnt out a motor and stopped working. At the time I did not think it was funny but now I do. Life with a GSD is never dull.
Blitzen I have often thought I could do that if with what I get off my dog.

Next time I go carpet shopping I am taking my dogs and matching the carpet to them.

Carpet shopping? I want wood freakin' floors. The vacuum takes care of the hair, butt the muddy paw prints or sick dog accidents get at me. I pay about $400 a year to have my carpets cleaned, that doesn't include the couch. Maybe if I stop and save up, I can get the wood??? LOL Naaah I can't live like that for so long!

German Shepherds...putting the 'pet' into 'carpet'!
A major selling point of the house I'm living in now was the wood floors. Now, if only it didn't have WHITE ceramic tile in the kitchen!
There's broadloom in the basement, and I already have to tear it out because my cat peed down there, and my eldery German Shepherd had diarrhea down there a couple of times before she passed away, and now, I've got friggin' carpet moths breeding away in it like there's no tomorrow!! AAARRRGGG!!

I would die for ceramic tile. My house in Germany was all tile and wood. I just ran the vac over it daily, sometimes twice, depending if the dogs were blowing.
My old dog also exploded on my floor before we had to put her down.

I hear ya there. I'm working on ripping up all the carpet and want to refinish the wood or put laminate over it. However, I don't want to take the carpet up just yet with the 17 year old! Would feel really bad taking away all of her carpeting and with the floors being in poor condition she actually has some traction. :)
In my next house. Tile and laminate all the way!

My living room/dining room/kitchen are ceramic tile as is common down here. We had to buy a huge piece of bound outdoor carpet to put in the main area because when "Lake Gunner" happens on ceramic tile and they're running they slide and crash into everything. Maybe floors made of rubber mats??????? Shepherd color of course.

hehe I consider myself lucky, Since I own a grooming shop it is easy to get my dogs done. If I feel really lazy I can give my bather an extra 10 or 15 and my GSD come home squeeky clean and not shedding lol
Seriously tho, There is a product called Oxy Deshed. I use it at the shop for the big hairies, The trick, use the rake to get as much as you can, blow with a high velocity dryer ( you can get a good one at jefferspet for about $150) Then bathe with the Oxydeshed Shampoo then use the Deshed Solution. By the time they are 3/4 of the way dry ( blow drying) there isnt a hair left to hit the carpet. I have beige carpets and a Bi Color GSD and I am not sure what color Tino would be considered.
