GE,

If you're looking for a BRT you would be well advised to check hip and elbow stats, and get an iron-clad guarantee.  The last time I querried the OFA database, the BRT was one of the worst breeds for HD, with something like 45% of cases showing HD.  Granted, they do not have the numbers like GSD's so we may be seeing a skewed portion of the population, but it would be enough for me to have serious concerns about the sturctural integrity of the entire breed.

Proceed with caution and keep your eyes wide open.

Goldeneye

Why don't you post what you desire?  Lines, drives, purpose, etc.

I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction.

It is true that you can get a great dog here in the US.  Sometimes it is cheaper to go abroad.  I just imported a pup from Czech Rep. that was considerably less than people want here in the US for the same lines.  Sometimes it is more expensive.  I can find German and Belgium lines here all day for less money.

If you post it, they will come.

Once again thanks to all of you for the information. To touch on a few questions:

I am not sure how common the breed is. This information is not for myself. I dug around Saturday and I think I found a forum where questions pertaining to the breed can be answered.

SchHBabe - the info you shared about hips is important and I will definately pass it along. I wonder if that is indicative of a poor breeding program in the breed's country of origin, or maybe the less desirable specimens are being shipped over here? On another board I read that the process of importing dogs from Russia is frought with swindlers and rip-off artists. Definately a buyer beware market. Kind of sucks because there is another Russuian breed called a Black Ovcharka or East European Shepherd that I was kind of interested in myself. It looks like a slightly bigger GSD, but I'll pass given the risks involved.

Don Corleone - Golden Eye? I hear the James Bond theme playing in my head now...which is ok, because earlier I got trapped on YouTube watching a completely stupid skit called "Charlie the Unicorn" and couldn't get the Candy Mountain song out of my head.

"Shun the non-believer...shuuuuuuuuuuuuuun."

*you'd have to watch the video to get the reference*

If I can't go pick them myself, in person, I only import dogs from people I have learned to trust for years, and occasionally the close friends they refer me to. I, and my clients, have not been disappointed in over a decade, but I figure it cost me at least $100K to learn this lesson... who I can and cannot trust, etc. If I can't go inspect the dog/pup in person, I have a trusted friend with twice or three times MY experience, go inspect the dog, test the temperament, witness the working ability for me prior to any commitment or money changing hands. There are a LOT of crooks in the business. It makes the traditional crooked horse traders look like model business people a lot of the time. They make it really hard for the rest of us good, honest folks. Such is the nature of the biz, sadly.

I, too, would be promoting Shelley's litter to you, but, Russian Black Terriers??? OK, I don't think Shelleys litter will be what you wanted....now if you're looking for an awesome GSD...these pups are the ticket! jo

Russian Black Terriers?

Is that the stuff with the Kalua in it that gives you a really bad hangie the next morning?
