After that experience, I think I would have flown to Amsterdam myself and hung out at the cafes.  Sit back and relax!

Something like that happened when I was flying back from Holland (luckily without the dog...but there were other dogs flying in cabin and in cargo).  There was an 11 Hour layover in Newark because of a storm runing up the east coast...I got back to Washington about 2 a.m.  I was hissing mad (I called that way and luckily they got me onto a third flight (after two cancellations) that was the earliest of the last two flights of the evening).

Airlines are sort of a life sucks then you die kind of deal - I have been flying to Europe most of my life and I imagine that the same suckiness that affects passengers affects cargo as well....lol - dont ever fly a dog out of Italy - or if you do - make sure you know when the unions go on strike...that happens alot...there is a reason the name of the main airport in Milano (Malpensa) means bad thoughts.

Don't know alot about importing dogs. I just imorted a dog from frankfurt to dulles airport. it costed me 740 euros and then 30 dollars to pick her up at the airport. I also used Lufthansa. They have done this more times then us wiping our own ass. They do a great job. My gsd wasn't thristy or hungry. They have a chart to keep records of such and they give you a copy of it. At the time, 1 euro equal to 1.40 american dollars.

Lufthansa does an outstanding job overall I think.  It is never a good feeling when you go to pick your dog up and they look at you blankly and say, "Ok and um I think maybe um we um... you have a shipped item... oh, um... dog was it?"  It makes the hair on my neck stand up.  Lufthansa seriously has their game on when it comes to shipping.   Good luck in whatever you choose.

I would go with Newark, you may have to go further to pick the dog up but it's worth it, they have a great ground crew and customs crew. A/C van to the tarmac , they drive out and pick up the dogs while the ppl are still sitting waiting on the plane for a gate, and very good crew in cargo area. I don't know where you are but I would pick EWR over JFK or LGA in a heartbeat. I can give you further detaials via private e mail if you like, there are probably more specifics I can help with. Always I have been happy with Luftahansa and will continue to use them as my carrier for imports.Never even had a little complaint with them. The cost is close to the same,or the same for the 3 airports. Be more concerned about the ground crew. That's my .02. I hope this helps. I have done this many times with many airports and several carriers. My imports have never been hungry, thirsty or anything. Luftahansa has always gone the extra mile to see they are ok. Plus, they go and love on them too :}. I know your question was between LaGuardia or Kennedy but ......I would feel safer with Newark.

I picked my guy up at newark and i think that it was sls cargo or whatever it is that works with lufthansa.   other than the plane being a bit late because of weather i did not have a problem.  planes being late at newark are nothing new anyways!  as a matter of fact plane from newark flying over my house at the moment.  we live very close to it.  the only pain was having to go to the cargo area first which is way off the beaten path from the terminals then to customs, then back to the cargo area.  probably only because i was dying at that point to see my dog!
