Apparently, when one makes a stereotype connection, it is based on a something observable and actual. A prejudice is based on something with no logical basis.
Just to make the point of distinction. And that is why you are correct in saying people are taught prejudices, but perhaps a stereotype has been something observed.
Being an artist, I am stereotyped one way, let us say, I am crazy. A prejudice against me would be that I am incapable of scientific sense.

This stereotype profiling thing, just Imagine your Custer for a moment, or an Indian, how ever it works for you.
Or, are all bears bad just because some do kill and eat people?
It's all fairly basic once you break it down.

Using the bear stereotype as dangerous, I make that generalization to make noise in the woods to avoid conflict. My prejudice against bears might cause me to want all bears killed on sight.
