In my previous posts, 1. Good Angle

                                      2. Longer Angle ( Typo mistake, should read 2. Long front upperarm)

ibrahim, please draw your lines on this dog, for an example of the american show line dog's shoulder study.

I will

But first I want Blitzen and all friends familiar with ASL to comment on this personal observation, for me to learn

I have always been amazed with the ground covering gait many if not most ASL show though they usually have steeper front upper arms, whatever pictures I could find on the net of ASL I did tracing of front upper arm and shoulder blade and I found out that reason for good gait is most probably due to the very good long front upper arm that is most often much longer than shoulder blade. What do you think? what is your personal observation?

I have a theory that I am still working on, and hopefully I can finish, I will tell you the main idea, ( please note this is only a thought, nothing solid proven yet), it is not actually the angle of shoulder that is important, rather the position of the shoulder joint, meaning the farther away the joint from the imaginary vertical line (that passes from top of shoulder blade to elbow to ankle) the more front reach a dog can make.

Maybe that is why many ASL which look to have less fore chest development and have steeper front upper arms can cover ground, because due to long upper arm the shoulder joint is pushed away from that vertical line which gives more space for front upper arm to swing forward in greater distance. Not sure if what I am saying made sense?!

Ibrahim - Many thanks for sharing the diagrams. Reminds me of one of my favourite structure threads. :)

Take a look at Dingo, bad angulations, but very long upperarm - disadvantage=not enough firmness any more, lack of forechest, and a tendency for too long limbs overall.

Yes Susie, Dingo had two advantages for good reach, relatively long front upper arm and relatively long front leg, if I understood you correctly I 100% agree.

Believe it or not, this dog has one of the longest front upper arms, these traces are the best I could reach, I know it looks "strange"

Amazing length of front upper arm, yet angle is somewhere between steep and slightly steep, I know it is not the proper description.
