I said it on the other link but I thought I would mention it here -

In terms of the DNA the guy who they cite on their website (Mark Neff) is a Staff Scientist on the UC.Davis Vet school...which in my opinion tends to top the charts in terms of awsome vet schools.  He has a Ph.D in Genetics from UVA and a Post Doc in Canine Genetics from UC.Davis.  He lists his information on the website http://www.pandashepherds.com/genetic_panda_info which means he is probably ready and equiped to handle questions if anyone has them.  His email and phone number are both there :)  And I think he knows alot more about genetic mutations than any of us...and I also think that if he was a scam artist UC.Davis wouldnt touch him with a ten foot pole.

I think the statement about the first shepherd was a panda shepherd probably was incorrect...but the Captain does mention Piebalds showing up in the breed in his discussions about color.  Now it may be that the first shepherd (not German Shepherd but just Shepherd...one of the ones that contributed to the breed) may have been piebald...but that I dont think we would have anyway of knowing...I saw a bunch of spotted dogs in the book though.
