I'm already getting started. I've sent in an email to the company expressing my anger and feelings torwards their stupid rules.

If you guys want to read what I wrote to them.. you may do so at

http://germanshepherdlitters.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=14

I would encourage those who do write to them to attach a photo (not a big one) of their german shepherds loving up your child or you being with your best friend.

Blitzen:

How sad!  Do they discriminate against other breeds as well?  I sent an email to the link you provided.  I certainly hope they change their stance or at least get bombarded by outraged GSD owners.

It just reminds me how poorly sometimes our beloved GSD are perceived.  In fact, I was in the Wal-Mart parking lot today with my 2 GSDs.  I had my windows down while waiting for my hubby.  I heard a lady remark to "watch out for those attack dogs".  My dogs were sitting QUIETLY in our vehicle and not bothering anyone.  I just looooooove ignorant people.  Ugh!

Take care and keep us posted on how things turn out.  Hugs to Blitz!

I live in NJ and have 3 German Shepherds. All of my dogs are working , certified by LE search/recovery dogs. I had to supply Photo ID and THERAPY CERTIFICATION to my agent. At that point he said "you only have 1 shepherd, right?

I have found many of my dog training clients have an easier time with home owners if theri dogs are therapy certified.

just my 2 cents worth

Not sure about other breeds, Crazee, my husband called to make the reservation. He looked shocked, asked me what to tell them and I said we will find another campground. Blitz is going with us. If it were me, I'd have probably told them he was a Greater German Herding Dog and they'd have never known the difference.

I sent the following email to them.

I understand you do not accept German Shepherd Dogs into your camp ground.  If this is true, I would ask you to reconsider.  German Shepherd Dogs are no more or less dangerous or unruly than any other dog.  It is  the most revered breed of dog in history.  They serve on police departments, in the military and every where else.  Surely you have heard of Rin Tin Tin.

It is the same thing as stating you would not accept African American people into your camp ground because they are unruly or dangerous.  That would be rediculous also.  It is the individual dog or person.  There is a better chance of a drunk person being unruly or dangerous, than a German Shepherd.  Do you have a prohibition on alcohol in your park.  I doubt it.

Think again, please.

I wonder people with Lizard pets (Or wild lizards) are allowed to visit the camp? After all... they do give you a nice biting when you're not looking :X They bite harder, if you try to get them off of you :)

RESTRICTIONS:  NO Pit bulls, Doberman Pinschers, Dalmatians, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, and/or Great Danes. WHAT A JOKE!!!

What about the Akita, Chow, Husky, Mastiff, Presa Canario, Malinois, Cocker Spaniels, Dalmatian, (the list could go on) and what about all the other small breeds, that have unbelievable bite records.

Bad dogs are not born, there is no genetic mutation present in certain dog breeds that make them turn against their owner or reach out and bite someone. Most bad dogs are created, usually by the people who raise them.  Every dog is a product of his or her environment. That goes for all breeds that have teeth.

I will give them my opinion(s) also.. and I will keep watching their web site to see if they make change any of the rules.

Just my opinion. all dog people should boycott any business that bans specific breeds, and pack up and leave any town or state that has Breed Specific Legislation.

Hi Blitzen,

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience, That is really a shame.  But the problem is that Most German Shepherds that reside in the United States do have character problems, just like any other breed that becomes popular here.  Just open a newspaper and read some of the listings for the German Shepherds that are for sale.  It is filled with people who are clueless. I feel over the last decade the quality is improving here, and I think this site alone helps with the education.

Also I must add that poor chraracter is genetic, and until America changes its breeding requirements it will remain  very hard to acquire a GSD without character flaws generally speaking.

I am also sure that Cocker Spaniels bite more people every year the GSD's, But as Stated before when everyone can come together and solve these problems, the future for our breed will be much brighter here in the USA

http://www.dogbitelaw.com/Dog%20Attacks%201982%20to%202006%20Clifton.pdf

This is a link to stats of dog bites.  What this report does NOT take into consideration is breed standing and number of  dogs in each breed.  If that were also taken into consideration then the percentage of GSD bites would be extremely lowered because there are simply SO many Shepherds in the states.   But people will always be biased and make statistics say what they want them to say.  There is a big difference between "mean" "median" and "average" statistically speaking.  The pit bite stats did surprise me though.

by von symphoni on 14 May 2007 - 10:05

i just did some research on registration stats to prove the above point.

in 2006 GSD registered  45,575

Chows registered    1,592

 http://www.akc.org/reg/dogreg_stats_2006.cfm

So if you add all the stats for chows including maimings, deaths, attacks together you get  a total of

 133

for german shepherds the total is 167

BUT, the average when you divide that by the number of registered dogs is VERY telling.  This should give you the total of 1 out of every X number for that breed is a "biter"

for Chows  1 out of every 11.96 dogs

for GSD  1 out of every 272.9 dogs

With all this said, there is also truth in what Fokwulfe said too.  We ALL know that that pretty cocker spaniel in the movie Lady and the Tramp, could NEVER ever bite someone, she is just too precious.  And what about those darling dalmations?
