Me too!!! I feed RAW, but use the Natural Balance rolls for my tracking bait. I'm not going to take any chances & will discontinue the use of any commercial pet food product until they actually know what's going on.

"I agree when is this going to stop. It makes me really concerned"
... this should concern all Americans. We are in War. I personally stopped buying bread completely along with other convenient foods. There is much more than they care to inform us about or we decide to research. It's sad really how America was so giving and open borders to all. We need a swift kick in the arse for being blinded. Maybe that's the Sioux in me, I dunno yet.
... ooops sorry, back to the topic... I suggest BARF/RAW 100%. Your going to need your family protected one day among those who "can't deal with dogs", nothing like mans best friend.

We switched to Solid Gold, all holistic, great quality ingredients, all human grade. I love it, the dogs love it, a couple of my leaner outfits have gained a few but that's ok I actually think that is a good sign.
I'll never go back, I know that.
This is not going to end for a while I think, I think a few companies will have to go broke, then the few that are behaving themselves and using quality products from steady reliable suppliers will be the ones who come out on top when all of this is over, and I hope the general public wises up enough to see that they will have to become a little more educated about what they are feeding they're pets. That is when we will see the changes come about.
Also as breeders we could be a bit more pro active and require purchasers to feed a specific feed, In some ways I view that as a bit rude and invasive but the other way of looking at it, is that we know our babies are being fed correctly and safely, and supporting the companies that are doing they're part to keeping our pets safe. Education into our purchasers and having them tell they're friends and they're friends and so on will definately have devistating effects on the companies that do not use quality ingredients.

I think we might be seeing some new mom and pop dog food operations popping up. Our local newspaper over the weekend had an article about a local butcher, a dog lover himself, who is in the process of getting all the necessary analysis and evaluations for his raw food recipe which he intends to retail. He's been making and selling treats like dog chicken jerky for some time now and decided to retail a food made in his shop containing nothing but locally grown, human grade ingredients and no grain. He's been feeding his own dog raw for years.
I'm heading down there today to get the details and check out the treats. Blitz has been an a diet since the first recall when most of his treats went into the trash. He's starting to look at me funny, I think I need to find him something to chew on LOL.

we just became a retailer for innova, california natural, healthwise, and a couple others because of the pet food recall. I think the recalls might be good for the dog food industry. It exposes the dirty little secrets of the pet food industy and forces the public to educate themselves.

It may also expose the dirty little secrets of the human food industry. Maybe we ahould all go out and buy 2 freezers, grow our own veggies or buy fresh locally grown and get our meats from the neighborhood butcher.
I wish I could say I feel comfortable feeding EVO, but honestly I don't trust any commercial dog food 100% right now. I am not convinced it can't happen to other brands.

I think the dog food company's exposed a dirty little secret about the Bigger Picture of our problem. Thanks Goodness.
The Dogs and Cats that died are just the start of an investigation on something a whole lot larger ...
.. who is to blame?

What pulls my chain is the recalls are voluntary, the FDA cannot order them, so the food industry plays a wait and see game with our lives and the lives of our pets.
Looking at the ingredients has not been easy, to find out what some of this stuff is you Google it, then goggle again and keep going, unit you find out it is just another name for wheat Gluten then you throw it out.
I think this has not had enough exposure and the general public will go back to their normal. I do agree it is going to be up to the breeder to educate the puppy buyers.
If you look at the Diamond recall last year, it was US corn. This recall is the wheat gluten. I would just print the recall explanations and put them in the puppy package. That should keep them from buying anything with wheat or corn in it. You might pay a few cents more for the food, better than spending thousands at the vets to save your dog.
What scares me, if you read the one on the corn, this could happen again and again and again. This is because of what causes the corn to go bad, the weather.
