How legally libelous of you to post private e-mail addresses of subjective "B.S. Buyers."
Blitzen I totaly agree with what you stated. I wouldn't consider a puppy reserved until "cash" was in hand. I had one lady give me $100 bill to hold a pup for a day, she came back a couple hours later, after going to the bank and gave me the rest of the $. She wanted that puppy bad and made damn sure I wasn't going to sell it out from under her. She didn't feel confortable with the deposit I guess. LOL. I think if a buyer really wants a puppy, they will make that effort. I know I send my check out ASAP when I see a pup I "know" I want. If I change my mind, thats on me, I leave the deposit not expecting it back.
Gotta give her credit for listing the price of her puppies/dogs. I've inquired about the price of 3 titled dogs in the last month with not one response. I guess they figure if you have to ask the price you can't afford it. They could of at least had the courtesy to either let me know the dog was sold or tell me they had other ideas of where they wanted the animal to go. After all, I am a nobody in the world of Schutzhund.
How about this B.S. buyer? Actually bought one of my pups (which had been checked out by my vet before placing), had it for two weeks before taking it to the vet, then claimed the pup had a stage 4/5 heart murmur, I offered to pay 1/2 of the cardiologist bill, plus give a replacement pup if she infact did have a murmur, they returned her to me without taking her to the cardiologist, Actually said "I will leave this dog on your doorstep whether you are there or not!" Needless to say she has been to 2 vets that cannot detect anything wrong with this pup!! Says she is a happy healthy puppy! Of course the B.S Buyer wants a full refund! Sure let me drop that in the mail!!!
OK...money in hand, I get that...and from now on, that will be my ONLY way of doing it. However, when dealing with people out of your state, I ask again....how long is an acceptable time to wait for the deposit? What's more important.... trying to be a conciderate, honest, true to your word breeder...or money in hand?
That's what paypal is for. I've never had a problem giving an immediate deposit once I decide on which pup, or a deposit on first pick when we can see the pups. The only times we didn't do it that way was when we bought from Germany and the Netherlands, we started the money wire as soon as an agreement was reached with the seller, once the wire transfer is started the dog is sold. And in those cases I believe we made the offer of giving them a Visa/Mastercard number as either payment or deposit. No promises made until money and contract changes hands, or wire transfer is started. A seller can explain that nicely to a potential buyer so as not to "hurt their feelings".
Animules -
Thank you for that. I guess I need to look into a paypal account? And come up with a nice way of "explaining" this to potential buyers! :)
Yeah, if you don't have paypal, it's still first come first serve. They need to understand if someone comes to your door and you accept them as a buyer, when their deposit come in the mail, you send it right back. Sorry puppy sold before your deposit was cashed. Thats just the only way to do it.
If you choose to hold the pup before you get the deposit, thats on you. When you don't get the deposit or they back out, don't complain. After awhile of being burned, you will catch on and change the way you do things.
4pack - you got it! :-) "Once bitten, twice shy" kinda thing! Atleast the only thing they will get from me, out of all this, is simply that they are the cause for me changing the way I do things! But ya know...I can live with that...atleast they didn't get one of my pups! :-)
I believe in up front honesty from both sides. As a seller until you have money in hand your still trying to make a sale. People are all diffferent and it's hard to second guess everyone who does not buy from you. I could list 10 good reason why at the last minute people change their mind.
1. Looking at different litters and changed mind.
2. Discovered something about your pup they did not prefer.
3. Decided price was too high.
4. Decided they could not afford or had to use their "puppy money" for emergency.
5. Found cheaper pup.
6. Did not like dealing with the seller.
7. Spouse said NO!
8. Never was really serious about buying.
9. Change in family situtation(lost job,job transfer etc)
10. Seller "Mis-read" buyer who was being "Nice"
Bottom line this is part of the "dog" business. Every business has it's pro's and con's especially the human relations part.
