KYLE

Of course you did not think you could post this without all the critics coming out of the wood work. Overall the pup looks real nice for his age. Confident, calm and regrips when allowed. If you are training for ring then we have to take your word, that is what, and how they train. I personally start my schutzhund pups young. Grip work in prey with the rag and cuff. Let them win once the grip is set, then carry as a reward. The pup must also learn how to move the prey object thru barking. No defence work until older and can handle the pressure. Once a pup goes down in confidence he may never come back up. You have to remember in Europe it is easier to get another quality dog if the current one does not measure up. Then the crap dog gets sold to the USA for 4K. Since the training styles are so different between the disciplines you may have to pick. Good luck with your pup. Kyle

I appreciate and welcome critisism when it is constructive. I plan on posting alot of video on his progression (and his 1/2 sister that I get this weekend) My venues of choice are PSA, Ring sport, and Police Service. All of which requires heavy environmental and/or decoy pressure unlike Sch.(not saying one is any better than the other; just different) Because of this, I have always started my pups from day one with environmental imprinting and conditioning. I believe you miss valuable opportunities by waiting till a dog is 1 year old. But that;s just my opinion. Did my pup start to show a little bit from the pressure? Sure he did. Do I put that kind of pressure on him all the time? Absolutly not. This was a once in a lifetime chance to work with one of, if not the best, training decoys in France. Someone with far more talent and expertice than I will ever have. Someone who can take a pup like him to the absolute limit and teach him how to deal with it. I think that training session was invaluable at this stage of his life. I consider myself lucky to have been able to learn from very good trainers in multiple sport venues and police service. I believe I am a better trainer because I have had these opportunities. I do not plan on doing Sch with this dog but will be working with Sch trainers on specific things. I try to take from everything I see from every trainer I have ever worked with. It helps me fill my toolbox and gives me a good idea of what tool will work best for the task at hand. I got big goals for this guy. The genetics seem to be there. The question is will I be able to help him reach those goals. I hope so.

he looks like a nice pup. i see nothing wrong w/ working a pup that age. i have a 5 mo shepard and we work twice a week. if you know what you are looking at you'll be able to work your puppy in prey, then use a little more defense when the time comes. Personally, im willing to wait until my dog is 2 before using a lot of defense. im not too familar w/ ring sport, butif barking is needed, i wouldnt worry about it.
