I have been involved in a long running battle with DesertRanger on this site previously. That one is over and we no longer take pot shots at each other (so far). I am also now involved in a long running battle with spook101 and Abhay. I apologize to every member of this site, except those three I mentioned. I know that there are some who visit here everyday, to read the continuing saga of the Peyton Place spats I have been involved in, but I believe that most members of this site think we fighters are immature and silly, and I would have to agree with you on that. I have the kind of personality that when I am pushed, I push back, harder than I was pushed in the first place. Right or wrong, that is me. I will refrain (to the best of my ability and will power) from entering and participating in these kind of spats from now on. Of course, I will have to take some made up accusations and lies being posted here, without responding, and I will be accussed of running and hiding, when I no longer respond. However, in an attempt to be the better person, I will TRY ( Lord give me strength) to restrain myself. I do not want Oli to ban me from this site as it is a wonderful web location to ask a question now and then, conversate with some very knowledgeable people (Bob-O, Hodie, (before she left), DH, Gustav, Silbersee, Sueincc and Sue, and many others. As I understand it, when the new web site that Oli is working on, comes online, people will not be able to hide quite as easily, although secondary email addresses are pretty common so it will not help a lot. I suggest to those I have "disaggreements with, contact me via email, and we keep the rest of this site out of our spat. Again, I apologize to all, except those three mentioned. "Lord, help me have the courage to change the things I can. Help me have the strength to accept the things I can not change, and give me the wisdom to know the difference"

Good Post Echo Meadows, Voice your opinions to Oli he is the one who has the responsibilty and ability to clean this up. I feel no one should be allowed to post without a valid email address that can be traced for legal purpose when slander is involved against anyone. The majority of database members are not amused by the antics of a few. Oli@pedigreedatabase.com

Do Right, more than a few of us have butted heads with you know who. He seems to thrive on it, as he calls more and more people to the brawl. Sometimes you just have to choke it down and let it go. I'm like you and could go back and forth forever, to no avail. I just have to tell myself, I have better things to do with my time and nothing productive will come from keeping it up. Just ignore him and hopefully he will go away, far far away. The nicest thing this person has ever said to me was " you have a nice puppy, don't screw it up"! We can all see the posts are made to cause shock and stir things up. Lets all just quit letting ourselves get stired. Believe it or not this site had helped me with more than my dogs. I was not always the most positive person. Seeing others act this way, makes it clear as can be, "I do not want others to see me in this light".

4pack and EchoMeadows. I admire your spunk (you also AKVeronica). I pity the fool that assumes because you are women that you can be pushed around. I have seen some try in the past and it didn't work as they thought it would. I hope I can be as smart as you, 4pack. I should add that I have received several emails from men and women, telling me to ignore certain posters, as they will not change no matter what, and they will post lies, etc., with full immunity from any action being taken against them as their identity is not known. If this was a site that I ran, I would not let people that did not register with their correct names and addresses, post writings on here, but it is not my site. When I worked I also ran Clevelandcops.com and I required a full name and address before they could post. I gave that site up when I retired and now it is a generic selling and tourist type site. So I have some idea of what it takes to run a web site. I should have kept it but no longer living in the area made it impossible to keep up on all of the latest goings on in the department and I just closed it down and did not keep buying the .com name. I had many that tried to post critical things about the Chief and other higher ups on that site, without using their names. I told them if they would not say it to the face of the one they were addressing or discussing, then I would not post what they had to say. On this GSD database site, I believe that people who do not want to have their correct identity on file with the database (with Oli), then they should only be allowed to read and not to post. Many sites are like that. You have to register to be allowed to post questions and/or answers. But as I have previously stated, this isn't my site. sigh :)

Perhaps a legitimate email address could be registered but not shared publicly. Oli would have access to it if there were things like slander. I've seen this on other sites but since I don't know anything about how to make websites I don't know how it's done. Just a thought.

Arrakis

I think Oli should require us to use our real names. I belong to a couple groups (not dogs) one a horse board and the other is a herding site. We don't have to show our email addresses but we must send a proof of our name. Yes, my name really is Arrakis, just to clear that up here first. Sincerely, Arrakis Nichole Jenner

by Blitzen on 16 March 2007 - 14:03

How is the owner/mod going to verify that name? In theory, I could sign on here as Laura Bush and no one would be able to prove that was or was not my real name. All an owner/moderator can do is to delete offending posts and then warn the poster that he or she is being moderated and any more offenses will result in permanent explusion. In lieu of the warning, kick them off. I think that if Oli implements this feature in the future and is able to find a team of UNBIASED GSD people to assist him, we could see the end to most of the abuse that goes on here now. Most who abuse this board would get discouraged and move on to greener pastures. Now they do it because they can. We all used an email address when we signed on here, it should still be on record. The option was to keep it private which some of us chose to do. I myself have tried to figure out how to add my address to this board, but it is not possible as far as I know. Maybe Oli will be adding that option in the future. An email addy, whether is listed publicly or held private in the membership roster, gives a board owner the ability to trace any abusive posts back to the posters. That knowledge should cause some to think twice about what they are saying knowing that every email address is traceable and there really is no such thing as an anonymous internet blogger. The bottom is that unless the board owner and his staff constantly moderate the board deleting the abusive posts and taking care of those who post these messages, then it will continue status quo. No requirement regarding real names or email addresses will ever make one bit of difference. Some will never comply unless forced to do so. Too bad that adults need to be watched over like a bunch of school age brats, but it's the way it is. Unfortunately Oli not only needs to manage the many and complex functions of this board, he also needs to serves as a sort of warden; he's only one person.

by Blitzen on 16 March 2007 - 14:03

Just finished reading the other posts on this page and realized IF we each were required to post an email address some of these personal arguments - you are a BYB, etc - might be taken private. I have to think they are aired here ad nauseum because the posters do not know how to contact one another privately. Over half of page 1 today is taken up by personal insults.

by EchoMeadows on 16 March 2007 - 15:03

Blitzen, Exactly !! I would certainly rather argue these idiots privately rather than publically. For me there are consequences, for them NOTHING !!!!
