An imageGigante, my experience and what I've gleaned from the article indicates its all about muscle mass and fat, genetically. Look at the racing greyhound....zero HD. Look at the working black mouth cur, they are very similar in muscling, no skin like a greyhound so no body fat. I had friends who bred them for ranch work in Oklahoma, never had HD in fourty years. Dogs I'm producing are lean and as described in the article....the seven month old pictured is a fair representative of the type to select for.
