GoldenElk, I own the full brother (Ged) to that female you mentioned (although he isn't as pretty, hehe)...you can't go wrong with Gieske, my boy is very quiet in the house but like a bomb out on the field. High-drive doesn't mean destructive--my dog's torn up some slippers and a cord as a pup, but that's way less than what most pet dogs do--but you do probably need to work the dog just to get the best out of him. It's not so much as to 'tire' the dog out as to focus all his energies into something productive, and it results in a really good relationship between the two of you. I highly recommend Cindy as a breeder.

working lines can be west-german, DDR, Czech, Slovak - sounds like what you are looking for (any of the above would probably meet your requirements in bloodlines) check out http://workinggermanshepherd.com

I'm no breeder and certainly no expert. But, I have read that the origin of the arched back was because the GSD is long backed and lower in hips than withers, it caused some issues with weak backs at times. Don't know to what extent throughout the breed.  The more arched backs were to reinforce the topline since structurally an arched line is always more sturdy than a straight line.  Then the arch became overexaggerated over time.

This is only what I have read.  I'm sure there are more informed opinions on the board.

Regards,

Dawg

You should try Ajay Singh from Zwinger vom Patiala www.ajaysingh.com. Ajay is a very knowledgable breeder that does his research and knows his stuff.

I've just heard too may horror stories about weak nerves and bad hips...I say this of course knowing that European lines are effected with these problems too, but not to the degree that AM. lines are. This is one of the funniest things I've read in days!<<>> I've been in the breed for over 30 years and seen more crap come from other countries than our American lines. Weak nerves??? What the heck is that? -Rick
