Used 6 fish, BUT I do not think it was the food. If you remember back a couple months ago I had to put my GSD on Metro/then a few weeks later a 5 day dose of Panacur. Lab work showed nothing. He kept getting remittent blow out squirts, the worst and then started puking a few times also. That did it. The metro/Panacur treatment took care of the problem, now has been about 6 weeks without trouble. Have fed Acana Pacifica with raw in PM. All has worked. When his gut was acting up he couldn't eat anything, sooooo. Do prefer Orijen to Acana, more meat content, less carbs. Thx Nan
PS: Also added probiotics/enzyme combo powder to PM raw food. All is good...so far... Thx Koach I have thought of that also and that is why I added the probiotics/enzyme powder... Nan
PSPS: My 9 year old sammie boy does better on Orijen at least the 6 fish, so another reason to give it a try again. Cost is choking me though but only have the 2 boys to feed so that helps somewhat... NAn

Maybe you should stick with Acana, then? It's a very good dog food that is compounded by experts in the field of canine nutrition. It's a complete dog food. Personally I don't agree with adding a lot of extras to a high end commercial food since it upsets the balance. I might add a few table scraps now and then, but not a lot on a regular basis. Why don't you just try feeding Arcana without raw or any other additive for one month and see what happens. You do know that not all dogs do well on raw.

Thank you Blitzen, I may do that. Nan

Jenni78 - I feed Orijen Regional Red and how I wish it was $50 a bag! Are you paying $50 for the Regional Red?
Nans gsds - I've been feeding Orijen since I got my girl as a puppy almost 3 years ago and have been very happy with it (aside from the price). Thankfully, a large bag lasts us almost 2 months. She was on the large breed puppy formula, then the Orijen adult (can't remember the forumla but had chicken as the main protein) and then switched a year or so ago to the Regional Red. I think Orijen has recently introduced a new formula too. I've been very happy with this food. Basically, it works so I've never tried to switch. Her coat is glossy/shinny and thick. I do add greek yogurt to her am feeding and a raw egg every now and then to her pm feeding in addition to the shank bones she gets on the weekend. I use to add raw turkey to her puppy kibble but quite doing that for whatever reason as I quit adding vegetables because she's pick around those and leave them in the bowl.

OK Thanks Crazee sounds like it has worked for you. I think Chewy has the best Orijen prices but large bag is still $90.00/bag however, I do feel y ou get what you pay for. Thx for sharing Nan

I would also like to know your secret Jen. $80 a bag at my local "all natural" pet store is still painful. Hell, so is the $40 for the cat.
I've used Orijen for a little over a year now and the girls love it - so did Yapper when he was alive. Coats are great, great energy, solid poops, etc. I think my wallet is the only thing that doesn't love it.

Thanks Dawulf for your input; I can relate to the high price, so $80/bag is pretty good; I am getting prices anywhere from $90/bag up to $97.99/bag, ouch...Dang, but again I do feel it pretty superior to most brands of food; glad your girls are going well on it. Thx again Nan
So do you use the adult or ??

Qira is on the regular adult, yes. I wanted to try her on the Tundra but that is $110 a bag. Ouch!! Cheyanne (the cat) eats Regional Red though. Believe it or not she doesn't like fish, so I try to get her food with more red meat or poultry in it. I figure if she has to eat it every day she may as well enjoy it - and she does... a little too much! I've never seen her absolutely LOVE a food like she loves this one. She gets the Orijen treats too, and appreciates them, though she's never been keen on the freeze-dried treats. I haven't gotten them for Qira yet.
The people I buy from tell me that Orijen is building a plant in Kentucky and hopefully once that is finished they will reduce the price, as it will be more available and closer to ship from. However, I don't see why anyone would reduce the price on something that is already selling well.
