When I bought my first 2 GSD's I didn't know about working lines and show lines, only realized that there was a big diversion in phenotype. I wasn't interesting in showing or training or breeding just wanted a GSD for a companion. When I started reading this forum I soon found out how wrong I was .

This is one of the 1920 Distemper Ads, I'm not sure what they were selling for it.

Distemper used to be called "hardpad" and dogs were still dying from it into the 50's.

Blitzen,
Do you think that above Distemper preventative was Snakeoil?
Does anyone know what that was?

This is for Gustav,
It is a Winterview kennels advertisement saying that "The Thouroghbred are Winning the Battle with The Scrubs" and it has picture of what were conisdered scubs on top, with Curly tails and low withers, then below, the dogs considered Thouroughbreds... This is from a 1919 Shepherd Dog Bulletin. They dealt with a lot teeth, testicle, tail, temperament and other cosmetic issues in the start of the breed it seems. The dogs that ended up with published images were most often the better ones.
