There is plenty of scientific evidence from dogs and other mammals that early removal of the sex organs and the sex hormones produced by them is not healthy for the development of normal mental and physical processes in males or females.  Exactly as is the case with vaccinations there is no one size that fits all for mammals be they human, canine, bovine, or equine.  One need look no further than the history of eunuchs or castrati to see the why and how of male neutering which goes back some 23 centuries or more.  Eunuchs castrated as children were done so to preserve their feminine voice and appearance.  The Castrati were young boys castrated to preserve their feminine voice by the Roman Catholic Church which did not allow women to sing in their choirs.  The last Castrati was recorded in 1922.  It is well known that male dogs castrated before adulthood never develop their full musculature and strength.  Conversely male dogs castrated after adulthood is reached (depending on the breed) retain their male mentality and physical strength much more so than those castrated as puppies.  Early castration serves not the health or vitality of the dog but serves only to reduce the frequency and consequences of unwanted pregnancies.  Sterilization to prevent pregnancy in adult humans has likewise been utilized but is considered criminal and inhumane unless the human makes the decision freely and is of the age of adulthood and consent.  Sterilization of human children is I believe unlawful and criminal in all cases.
