Shelley--
I am so sorry. Don't give up hope. I'm sure you have your suspicions, but it might just be a local kid, patting himself on the back for getting a free dog. He might also have no knowledge of tattoos and microchips, and how easily he might be discovered. Word of mouth and the unending stupidity of teenage boys to brag could leave another kid to think you are 'easy pickings', putting the other pups at risk. I'd bring them in until you could have an alarm system installed in the barn.
If the culprit is a kid in the surrounding area, he will eventually get 'stupid' and that pup will be noticed. Get the Police involved, especially focusing on the local precincts. Personally talk to the cops in the patrol cars, handing them a picture as you do so. I'd also put flyers up at the local schools.
I'm sure my suggestions are only reduntant to everything you are already doing, but I had to mention them. Again, I'm so sorry. More than likely, he's being treated like a king by some teenager.
I see others are focusing on the potential buyers (and understandably so). I went another way--just to offer an option.
Policemom - I do believe it's very legal to do this! :-) But you might want to check with your local law enforcement. EVERY prospective buyer must fill out my puppy questionnaire before they every step foot on my property. And I ALWAYS call and check/verify that the info they are providing is correct. I gues you could say that I've been burned before and am a very untrusting person! LOL
SHELLY,
I HAVE BEEN IN YOUR VERY SAME SITUATION.ITS A SLICK THING THEIFS DO.
THEY COME AND ACT LIKE THEY ARE INTERESTED IN A PUP,WHERE THEIR REALLY CASING OUT YOUR SET UP.
THEY THEN COME BACK AND STEAL YOUR PUP.
UNFORTUNATELY IN MY CASE MY PUP WAS NOT MICROCHIPPED,BUT I DID GET AN ARREST AND THE PUP CONFISCATED BY THE GEORGIA POLICE.I WAS VERY LUCKY I GOT A SRG RICK HAMMOND ON THE CASE AND HE IS ONE GERMAN SHEPHERD LOVING POLICE OFFICER.NOT TO MENTION ONE TOUGH COP.I HAD TO GET DNA TO PROVE THE PUP WAS MINE AND NOT THE THEIFS.AND THE TRIAL IS STILL PENDING IN ATHANS COUNTY GEORGIA.
THE MAN WHO STOLE MY PUP ALSO SLAMMED THE GATE SHUT ON ANOTHER PUP CAUSING PERMANANT BRAIN DAMAGE,THAT PUP WAS PUT TO SLEEP AFTER ALL EFFORTS FAILED TO SAVE HIM.
THEIR IS A LOT MORE OF THIS GOING ON THAN BREEDERS REALIZE.
DO NOT GIVE UP.I WILL SURELY KEEP MY EYES OPEN IN SOUTH NEW JERSEY.
.. yes I agree, I bought a Lord pup a few years she was stolen from my back yard in Jonestown in day light @ 6 months old, had an ear tattoo and micro-chip. I searched everywhere, nothing, untill one day a few months later someone called my home to inquire about the pup I had and wanted to know bloodlines and her name. Fishy. Thank goodness for caller ID, the call came from a GSD Rescue in Mechanicsburg. Who later told me my pup was sitting in the ASPCA for weeks until she "Rescued" her on the West Shore. I will never trust or even offer moneys to ASPCA's or Rescues ever again.
My pup had tattoo on the ear and inner thigh, and a micro-chip all reg. to me at the address she was stolen. **PUKE**
With all my time, moneys and travels... I had to beg to get my dog back from this "Rescue" who said I left my pup in that shelter for weeks without a home.
I emailed picturesand info to all ASPCA's, police departments and township offices within reason of Jonestown. It's wasn't good enough. My pup was in Mechanicsburg. And the only person to care enough to bring her home was me.
All in all... if I wouldn't have had that pup insured, that rescue would have never given her back to me. Thank GAWD for my pup's insurance company, that was one deal that should have made the papers.
Good Luck Shelley !@! I hope you have your pup insured.
I just wonder if that wasn't an inside job.... you just never know anymore. Melissa.
Shelley,
I have been praying that you find or someone has a good heart to bring your puppy back to you. You probably thought of this already, but I would go to those peoples homes that came out to look at your pups. If you even have caller ID write the numbers down, like someone had said and get a police officer to check it out. Hopefully they won't be home at the time you go there, so you can scope it out! I usually have the pups mom in with them if I can, because she is very protective when it comes to her pups. That is also a very good idea to make a copy of their drivers license. I really hope he comes up. If you can post some photos of him that would be very helpful. I'm in Michigan, but if I can help I will. BabyEagle4U, can you let me know privately or on here, where you get your pups insured. I have looked at that with my home owners Ins, and they won't do it.
Best Wishes, and I will keep praying for your Brazen to come back home!!!
Kel
sure Kelly, you can check it out here .. http://www.vpi-pet-insurance-services.com/
After my ordeal this insurance company added a state of the art Theft Protection Policy.. you'll find no better in my opinion. You can read about it here ..

I've been with this company for years... at first you might not think it pays to join... but after the 2-3rd year you'll appreciate the benefits. It comes in handy year after year for race horses too. :o)
Thank you so much BabyEagle4U. I will check it out.
Kel
I used to work with the Mechanicsburg SPCA and they always check for microchips and tats.
Keycat,
What a horror story! I have heard so many scarey stories since last night I am going to be paranoid for the rest of my life! I am so glad the puppy showed up in the kennel this a.m. Probably "borrowed" by one of the neighbor kids who got scared when the cops were called in.
I am building a rather unique exercise area out back this spring, partially as a response to this. It will feature fencing in concentric rings, with a place for pups more secure in the inner rings, less "stealable" adults in the outer rings, all padlocked and withing easy view of the house/office windows, flanked by trees & shrubs and not visible from our long, steep, private drive. I will have webcams in the kennel, on the driveway and around the property mounted high enough as to be difficult to tamper with.
The "ring" runs will provide excellent exercise opp's for all, and the adults will discourage tampering.
This has been a ral wake up call for me.
Thanks you all.
Shelley
