When someone over sells their dog or any dog it's hard not to challenge the BS. I was surprised you didn't tell us he typed your post for you.

Very nice!!Its not often I litteraly laugh out loud, but I did not see that coming...
bun bun,
I just imported a fantastic female from the Salztalblick Kennel. She has very nice structure...so far for her age that is. She is also very drivey and playfull, but can be in the house also. You might want to look there. I have also seen a few dogs from this kennel come through our Schutzhund Club and they too were correct in structure and had nice working ability.

Real nice Spook101 you're so funny. So when you put time in training your dog and want to share this you're over selling?

KellyJ,
Why do you think a Czech dog would be better for "real life" situations. Don't you think that the attributes that allow a dog to be good for sport are also the the qualities that are necassary for a good police or military working dog?
You suggest that it is best to "go with the majority".
Do you know why you are seeing the police use more Czech dogs. Because they are cheap. The police can not or will not pay for top dogs. At the most recent police dog seminar that I attended, the majority of dogs were DDR or Czech. I saw one dog that I liked and asked the handeler about his pedigree. All West German. Turns out the dog was mildly dysplastic and they got a good price.
The police and military get the dogs that are not good enough for the sport, either problem with nerves, grip, etc.

jbrown, although I've titled a few dogs and shown in the Nationals and North American a few times, but my dog couldn't possibly compare to yours. He doesn't read and write, fetch beer and keys and all that other stuff your dogs capable of. Do you belong to the Liars Club? If not you're a talent wasting.

Zahnberg,
Why are the German police departments moving away from the west workinglines? In some cases even moving to mals. Logic would dictate that in the country of origin this type of dog would be overwhelming favorite.
Also, the disired traits of top competition dogs are different than PSD. I would say the sch trials of the 70s and early 80s were better evaluaters of dogs that will excell at police service work. Then, fight drive and discernment were stronger traits as opposed to drive and grips for today. Ask a police officer which pair would he prefer.

No, The attributes of a TOP sport dog is not at all what you are looking for in a real life working dog. A sport dog sees schutzhund as a game and most sport dogs would never bite for real.
If you think otherwise you need to do more research. And why I said go with the majority, I aid that because MOST people unlike you will say what I just said.

DDR dog's take longer to mature, and personally not owning a Czech dog I can only say that I do think depending on the pedigree they can have more drive. If you want a DDR then I would suggest going DDR/West working. I do have a male that has awesome drive and a clear mind that is 1/2 DDR and 1/2 West working. I also have an East girl that will bite with or with out a sleeve, she is very serious. It all depends on how far you are willing to go in schutzhund. Do your homework, and make sure the dog is going to fit your life style. Just my 2 cents.
