Thank you Hexe for the heads up. JHC, what next.

I had to stop using Trifexis and the fleas seem to have spa parties with the Frontline. I too haven't had issues with fleas since stopping the trifexis until just recently. I am looking for natural flea repellent since my dogs have developed a sensitivity to flea products (all except Frontline which is not working right now). Sigh......

Fleas are very bad here too. I don't like using the chemicals as I had a dog suffer convulsions due to one of the collars a number of years ago and I never want to see that happen again. I don't want to be exposed to pesticides either while grooming and petting my dogs. At the same time I can't keep up with the fleas this year with the usual methods; combing, bathing, cedar bedding and diatomaceous earth sprinkled around their favorite hangouts. If anyone knows of other non-pesticide controls I'd love to know about them.

Essentail oils are quite potent and effective at killing and repelling fleas. Here is one blend that a company sells for fleas:

I have also had great success using essential oils on my dogs to keep fleas and ticks at bay. I mist my dogs once a day during the spring, summer, fall months and once every two or three days in the winter months. They have not had a single flea or tick since I started using the oils, they smell wonderful and I do not have to worry about exposure to dangerous chemicals.
I buy my oils from Wyndmere Naturals and mix my own, but the product that K9gsd78 posted a link to looks very nice. If you are interested in learning more about essential oils and their properties, I highly suggest The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood. She has devoted a whole chapter to the use of essential oils on domestic animals, including information on safety and dilution, plus recipes for burns, abscess, cuts and wounds, arthritis, bug deterrents, etc.

MadAboutOrganics.com sells a blend of essential oils that has been working for my crew for several years now! It cured a nasty infestation when Frontline wouldn't. And it's not expensive & the folks that run it are sweet.

Thank you all for the Natural Oils links. I firmly believe in them but don't know enough about them so I am going to order the book and check out the links. The book will help with setting the environment in my therapy since I already work at getting the right feel in my office with lighting and such, I have used dried lavender in a nice bowl next to my clients.

the humidity in NY can be bad too. While everyone is having issues with flees, I've never had an issue. I stepped away from all the spot ons and feed Springtime Bug Off Garlic. I have not used a spot on in two years. The only times I've had ticks was when my female was off the Garlic.
