Ruger thanks heading to town will try a pc first. i don't think meds are antibiotic they say antibacterial on packet?

name is cephalexin 1000, prolly generic. vet tech got vet to prescribe brand ad she earned points toward a vet tech book from the brand, said it right in front of me.

will go see my regular vet when she gets back, this one is mainly a cow and horse vet but i was stressed and made the appointment.

Cephalexin is an antibiotic

Anti bacterial is used to treat/ prevent bacteria and Jyl is right that script is for antibiotic / could be that due to the itching your dog has a secondary infection and hence the antibiotic for a bacterial infection .

I would also give your dog a probiotic, as antibiotics will WHIPEOUT the good bacteria in the gut as well as the bad..

Just check the ingredience on the probiotic that you get.... make sure there is NO sugar or starches.... as sugar feeds yeast.

Wtf i wanted an anti fungal altho i did get a suspenion called apex pmp apex is the lab name contains acids and upon reading is antifungal. problem is it is very viscous there is no way that is going to get thru the hair and into the ear canal and i ain't shovin no ear bud or applicator into my dogs ear canal so how am i supposed to get it to the infection site deep in the canal??

my stupid regular vet is off having babies or something, she isn't stupid i am stressed.

Vk ,, don't get excited !! :) sounds like you have a topical anti-'fungal and an oral antibiotic. That's fine . However, you will need to clean the ear througly with something from the pet store made for ears or with witch hazel. Really irrigate the ear well and dry with cotton or soft cloth. Then the medication will penetrate.
I would start a probiotic as Jyl said ,,,

Clean ears as best as possible and then baytril, ketoconazole and triamcinolone (BKT).

Switch to a grain free food or find out what is causing the problem be it grains or allergies.
