Fawn, this is the set up I've used on two Shepherds with Mega-E.  Their daily feeding of kibble was soaked between feedings to the consistensy of mush then divided into two or three meals per day-I've had excellent luck with my girls.

Thanks 3Shep2.   We have been able to avoid the mush and any special feeding position.  As a puppy, I just held her after eating until we got the portions right.  We went 17 months with no issues and she is up to 3 cups in the morning.  She is getting a bit thin, so I was trying increase her food.  Now that I think about it, I added hot water to make a warm gravy.  That expands most kibble, so I am sure it was a contributor.

When I left for work, my foster puppy was looking under the weather. He had continued to regurge after my first post. He had a mild case of the runs the previous night so I skipped a meal and then gave him one small meal before putting him back on his normal schedule. I guess I should have eased him back onto it, but I didn't know this would happen. I'm prepared to take him to emergency when I get home tonight if he looks ill, but hoping he just needed some rest.

It could just be that he has an upset stomach.  You also have to take into consideration that any vomiting, Mega E related or not, will only make the Mega E worse.

TALK TO YOUR VET that is familiar with the puppy and the Mega E condition.

Any advise I give is based on my own experience and what my vet gave me as a solution.  PM me if you have any questions.

Greyhoundgirl, how is your pup?

My foster pup was covered in regurge when I got home but none of it looked fresh and he was perky again. I gave him a bath and fed him small amounts every two hours through the night. He's currently clean smelling and no further regurge. I will slowly get him back to his normal 3x a day feeding over the next couple of days.

This pup seems to have a mild case of ME, is on no meds, no vertical feeding, and almost never has regurge except when he drinks too much water or snow at one time. He's cuter than a bug in a rug and I would love him in a sport home. I've already started his obedience and he's doing great - as he has high food drive training is pretty easy. But, as he has ME, he's going to be hard to place.

greyhound girl, has the foster actually been diagnosed with ME based on x-rays, or just based on clinical signs?  I ask because pups born with persistent right aortic arch [PRAA] will show the same regurgitation pattern, because the of the abnormality which will eventually cause ME in addition to the PRAA-- but PRAA can very often be surgically corrected if it's caught early enough and before there's been any cardiac and esophageal damage.  IMO, it's worth having a barium series run to differentiate between the two conditions if it hasn't already been done...

He had x-rays done at 8 weeks and 4 months and it's pretty obvious. I can hear and feel the pouch in his neck. I will say that the second one looked better than the first so I'm holding out hope that he may grow out of it. He's almost five months old now.

i've been meaning to look up PRAA just out of curiosity, just haven't gotten that far.
