Dawn G. Bonome

Bsceltic, In Smiley's post, a Shiloh Shepherd was never mentioned. GSDAndrea mentions a Shiloh Shepherd in her response. Smiley, are you looking for a German Shepherd? Please clarify so that people can point you in the right direction. Dawn

Thank you all for your responses! I definitely do not want a shiloh...too big. A lot of the breeders advertising "old-style gsd" produce dogs that are too large in my opinion. However, I do like their straight backs, large bones, and more of a square build. However, the GSD was bred to herd so I can't believe huge dogs would hold up over time and prefer dogs in line with the breed standard. Corieone and Echomeadows- I sent you both e-mails. Avorow and Dawn- I am not too interested in the ScH dogs as they seem to possess more agression problems and tend to be from the lines that have those roached backs that I do not like at all. The post on here of the person looking for a dog with extreme aggression really scared me. No thanks. I'm looking for a good natured family dog. A dog that will bark and put on a show to protect us but will have a hard time actually biting someone. Just my opinion but please feel free to disagree as to each their own! Thanks anyway! Any other suggestions for breeders please......... :-)

Smiley, I want to wish you well on your endeavor in finding a GSD. You are not interested in German Shepherd lines from Germany? Showlines or Working, correct? Are you looking for an American German Shepherd? American Lines? Dawn

Any suggestion for Breeders? Go to American Lines. Maybe someone knows of American Line Breeders you can contact. This is not the place as these dogs are not the type that you are looking for. Best wishes!

Dawn, No, definitely not American show lines. Yuck! Not my taste... I like the working ability of German lines but not the all too common roached backs. Plus, some of the dogs are too over the top (if you know what I mean). I do like the German herding dogs. I think the Good German lines have stable dispositions and great work ethics. I like their deep color and typey appearance. But again...I just have this thing about roached backs. Plus, though they have less angulation than American show lines, they still have too much in my opinion. However, I am looking for more of a square type dog with a straight back, less angulation, and type. I want to do tracking and obedience so intelligence and willingness to work are essential. I want a disposition that is like a good hostess. Gracious and polite with company but can also escort a guest out if they get out of hand! I have found a lot of the American show lines to be weedy/lack bone and substance; have washed out colors; poor working temperaments; poor heads; and way too much angulation in the high end. Like I said, maybe I am asking for too much...which would explain my multi-year search. :-(

Bumping up...... Is there nobody else that can recommend some breeders to me???? I have a hard time believeing that what I am looking for is non-existent in this country. Are any particular herding lines generally more square with straight backs and less angulation? I could really use the expert opinions from you guys as I truly need help from experienced breeders in locating the appropriate dog. Thank you very much in advance!

Do you have a picture you can share of the type of dog you are looking for? I think I know what you mean but an not SURE SURE. I don't want to waste time and lead in the wrong direction.

4Pack- No. :-( Just in my head!!!!! Well, actually, if you can find pictures of the top shepherds from the 1940's and 1950's that would be close!!! I like the old style look and working ability. However, the breeders currently advertising "old-style" shepherds are breeding dogs that are far too large (in my humble opinion) and not focusing on working ability. At this point, I am hoping a modern breeder has a reject puppy that is from a stable working family, has a straight back, good bone and substance, type in the head, correct movement, strong hindquarter, deep color, more of a square build that isn't intense enough for upper level schH work. Any leads you can give me would be great and much appreciated.... Thank you!

Ok. Lots of nice dogs there...a lot from the sixties. However, my favorites are: VA Hussan Vom Haus Schutting (1932) VA Odin Vom Stolzenfels (1933) VA Connie Vom Klosterbogen (1969) If I had to pick a more modern dog than I would say.... VA Gundo Vom Klosterbogen (1975) VA Arras Von Haus Helma (1971) I hope this helps.......
