The general public can be very ignorant when it comes to the wolf. I saw a "pet" Timber Wolf once. OH MY< he made my heart go pitter patter. But that does not mean I wanted to take him home. I like a dog wth an edge, but not physco. I want to enjoy my dogs, and not be on pins and needles or If I drop my guard for 10 secs, someone gets hurt. You could never TRUST IT, and it is not the wolves fault, I do not care how much trianing you have done with it.

I remember a female GSD puppy that I sold to a couple, who I extensively interviewed and explained this was to be a pet/companion with limited registration who should be eventually spayed and never bred. After an hour or so of discussion, they signed the agreement and took the female towards her new home.
As they were leaving, the husband mentioned to me that "we love our wolf hybrids and are really excited about getting this girl" and stated that he had a young male wolf puppy. I told him that they must NEVER be bred, but realized that I had his money, he had his new puppy, the agreement was signed, and there was not a damn thing I could do about it aside from shake my head and curse.
Of course in some areas it is illegal to own such a hybrid due to the inherited distrust of humans that remains present in at least 50% of the animal's mental function. Add to this the fact that per the law in many areas, a rabies certificate will not be issued for such an animal. When coupled with dog that is as powerful and aloof as a correct GSD it is indeed a stupid (you seldom see or hear me use that word) practice.
