I agree with BobO - this pup is very "borderline" right now, and may end up a normal coat but "plush" still acceptable for showing, breed survey. Or he might go the other way and develop more hair and be a long-stock coat, not acceptable for showing/breed survey. Time will tell. I have seen pups with coats like this (show line pups) go either way. molly

At that moment Vasco is a pet class puppy. He have possibility for changing in upcoming maturing time like every puppy have - to betterment or not. But for now we must be real that he do not express show potentional on first sight in all. If you need showline dog and buy puppy you must be conscious that you play lottery. And hair condition is only one part of that lottery. And for now unfortunately you have not got luck in that game.

I have to agree with Amir. Vasco's brother Dux http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/477281.html is more of a show prospect. Did you buy him for brreding and show? If you did I would talk to the breeder about this

I am sorry to hear that. I would go back to the breeder and have a good talking to him/her. Amir knows what he is doing. He owns a show kennel and shows dogs in Europe! His kennel www.mayestoso.com

69rs - I am no expert, but own two long stock coats. Both of mine can be easily identified by the almost kinky long hairs behind their ears and the bushy pants and fluffy tails. Both my dogs have undercoats and my 13 year old female has been described by groomers as having a triple coat. Not quite sure what that means, but I know hers is almost sheep like underneath and if trimmed appears curly. My younger female can be viewed on the database - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/picturegallery.viewgroup?id=2759. The most noticeable difference in your pups picture to my females picture is the ears. I have seen puppies with a wavy back coat like yours that turned out to be plushy and not coats. Just from a perspective of having long coats, I would lean more to thinking your pup is a plushy. Since you did not purchase a long coat intentionally, I hope for your sake that she turns out to be a plushy and wish you luck.
