I have a ridegeback mix that comes in for boarding that has that same very red colour. Is there any trace of a ridge on her spine? The markings on her tail, face and sides suggest there may be some GSD in the gene pool as well.  A friend has a GSD/Boxer mix with similar markings. There is the outline of a very faint saddle on the dog's back.

She sure is cute!

Having had some truck with Boxers in my long ago youth, I would say
those eyes indicate Boxer somewhere, yes.  Unlike Jenni  & others I do
not see any Pit in this puppy - but she would know better than me, as she
has more contact & experience with them.

Lots of breeds, and none, have sabling (I don't see 'brindle') along spine and
tail, doesn't have to be GSD.  I cannot see from your pix whether there is any
sign of a Ridge, but it doesn't look to me as though there is one.  It is also hard
to see relative size in a photo like that; but your (confusing !)  description of the
weight c/f probable age makes me think this isn't going to be a large dog when
fully grown - although the front feet look big, so who knows ?  As someone said
it is too early to tell anything much;   so I would wait and see if there is going
to be a problem.  Some people think ANY smooth coated mixed-breed is a
Pit Bull.  ; )

Dragonfry's advice is sound.

I am assuming nothing screamed "Pit" at YOU when you adopted the puppy ?

Muzzle is wrong for a Boxer though eyes are similar. Could have some Boxer, sure, could have some of just about anything in there...like I said, time will tell. People have this idea of what a Pit puppy looks like but very few have seen many that weren't the exaggerated, byb types (AmStaff/molosser cross types). The coat seems a tad thick for a Pit pup...could be any number of things thrown in there like Dragonfry said. Whatever it is, it's not a pure Pit by any stretch, and it'll likely be a while before adult characteristics make it easier to identify, so make up a breed like everyone else does who gets a rescue and call it a day.

The pics aren't the best to gauge body type.

call it terrier mix. :) and you just covered 100 possibilities. :)

Hopefully these pictures help a bit? A trainer at percolate thought she may get med-large range and she is about a foot tall to her shoulders

To me the splotching on her spine looked like brindle which was why I called it (didn't know it as sable)

Gsd is that German Shepard or something else?

You can kinda tell that I was using a treat to get her to pose

(My cat jumped up with me and Jen so I'm watching looks like Jen wants to back off --the puppy-- yup went to another spot lol initially she was excited but the cat has taken a couple swipes at her to say calm down and back off)

Pits are a dime a dozen where I live and I see mostly pit there.  I don't see boxer at all.

See what you mean about the back looking a bit brindled.

I can still see Boxer in there, especially in the one of her
standing facing the camera & close to it - the ears and
the wrinkle on the forehead, as well as her eye-shape.
Whether it is or not, I can see why the shelter thought
it was a degree of Boxer.  Don't be too hard on their
staff !

by Biyu on 11 April 2013 - 03:04

It's mostly the change in story from "we think we know something that can point in a direction" to now "we don't know anything" that they claimed she was a transfer and it sounded born in the outher state in there wherever she was which those records should then atleast make a suggestion to what the mother was no? Now *nothing*? And I guess there was a whole litter of them too!

Add that to a vet was certain she was pit (based on just the first face pic) and the fact that the place I got her from has a few pits
