Once you have smelled Parvo you will never forget that smell. Not even a dead body smells that bad! Probably Odo-Ban and Bleach. Least that is what the cheap places use to clean. Because Stat and other Virosols are pretty expensive. Like the stuff my vet uses to clean the Iso room that the parvo puppies are treated in. Least there everyone that works with the pups have to bleach their shoes and wears overall that go straight into the washer when they are done. And lots and lots of gloves.
I hate the pet stores, but the BYB are even worse because they don't clean and don't care.
Around here several pet stores have been sued by owners under the Florida Pet Lemon law, selling sickly and dysplastic puppies will bring the APCA and the cops to your door.

Why do byb'ers stay in business.....because they don't care either and your right dragonfry, there is no one to police them. Stupid/ignorant people make for a profitable trade.

Puppy mills don't care if their producers die, they have produced replacements. They don't need big properties, they will stack crate on top of crate. They shove a rough cut piece of plumbing down a dogs held open mouth so that the vocal cords are ripped out, then they're not so noisy. True puppy mills are horrific. Yes, BYB are ignorant for the most part, but puppy mills are the work of Satan! I had 1 litter, thanks to my 'ignorant' husband, & my heart just broke placing each puppy. That convinced me I shouldn't have another. My pups, BTW, are all still happily in their placed homes, & well loved!

I think it was the Easter Holiday that had that store packed with potential buyers. I keep hoping the group that picketed the Sarasota Petland will come to the Bradenton one. I hated walking by it and because of my field of work/study, I have to keep my mouth shut in order to avoid any potential fallout since you never know when the person you are seeing across the therapy room, interviewing you for a potential clinical or internship or post doc slot might not be the person you "educated" in the pet store. I had that happen last year when I discussed the option of adopting a pet from a shelter rather than paying for a puppy mill dog in a very professional manner, she turned out to be one of the people who interviewed me for one of many clinical sites I had applied to (Oopsy
).
