FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP THE DIA

by PJDogs on 27 December 2006 - 00:12

IMPERATIVE you stop diarrhea immediately before puppy is lost. Young puppy can dehydrate in a matter of hours. Diarrhea CAN be lethal! QUICKLY!!! This is not a "debating" matter at this time. Call VET! Calling breeder may get you shot but it will delay calling vet. Morgan

PJ is right! A young pup cannot stand dehydration. You MUST keep up fluids and electrolytes. Get it to the vet pronto.

Yellowrose, pepto bismol has ALWAYS had salicyalate in it,this is not new and it is not cotraindicated for puppies. my vet says the dose is 1 T. per 35lbs of puppy. Your vet is misinformed, I called Proctor and Gamble, the makers of pepto and verified this. like others have said stopping the diarhea is very important in a puppy, of course getting it to a vet is also if they happen to be open when a problem strikes, often they are not. Giggles, I hope your new baby is doing better.

It wasnt my vet that told me that, it was the head Vet at the Petsmart in Tyler, Texas, while I was standing in front of the wormers and over the counter meds . He walked up and ask me do u see Pectillen on the shelf? I said none here, He said oH my . I ask WHY? He told me do not us Pepto or Kaopectate because of the aspirin derivitive that the dose has been changed. I didnt ask anything else because I dont use either one.I wouldnt trust Proctor & Gamblae as far as I could throw them;;;;;;I sure hope people dont believe everything a Pharmachutical Co. tells u as being gospel;Between the FDA and the dont tell the public the truth for pets or humans, get rich quick, schemes and What they dont want u to know, put in a pill or a bottle, do u really think they would tell u it wasnt okay to use since they are selling it. Im sure if nothing else is available it wont kill the pup but an 6-8 week old pup doesnt weigh 35lbs so that might be safer on a larger older pup . I use pectillen if I know its not cocci or worms or bacteria related. Then the Albon and Panacur or Strepto come into play. I have been told by several vets to use Immodium Ad if need to.I didnt solicite this info it fell in my lat because I happened to be there and said Why,Oh My" Read the book some day when u have time "What they dont want you to know" by Steve Tredeau. You can find it at wWalmart.

HUH? My vet warned me about the new pepto bismal, Donot use it . They have added a new ingredient that is an aspirin derivitive and thats mad. bad...spook101 The vet at Petsmart is not the vet I use , but he has always talked to me and comes over to see how all the dogs are and tell me that he has seen a few of my dogs and informs me for what and how they look. Hes not the vet I use, but sees a big portion of the dogs in the Tyler Area including one I sold to a show handler who happens to work at that store. My thread said My Vet because he advised me that and Why go to all the trouble of saying ,which I guess I should have said "A vet that knows me said" Is that what u mean about HuH? I deal with at least 8 vets in a given area because I am in the chamber and they all see my dogs all over and know me by my healthy dogs. So excuse me if I called him "my Vet". My three personal vets and if u want their names I can provide, say do not use "pepto" , Kao if have to , rather use Immodium Ad.....but alknowing that if I have a pup with diahrea its because it ate a pine cone, or grabbed some adult food and I know exactly why It has diahrea so I dont need to second guess, and I have on hand every diahrea med i would ever need. I dont know what "Huh " was for but maybe I cleared it up for you...
