pigment shmpigment.......the question what was the GSD bred for?

what was the founders goal for the breed....   i quote   The breeding of shepherd dogs is the breeding of working dogs; and this must always be the aim, or we shall cease to produce shepherd dogs.

why is that so hard to understand...........i just do not understand.

The crux of the problem...... people.

Eddy, my point is you can't just point the problem at the SL's like you are doing with that old quote. It is like showing everyone here a nursery rhyme. So, if the SL have lost all sight of what is right because of pigment selections, then why aren't the WL also guilty of selecting for pigment when it comes to breeding? There is the same declaration of beauty for a dark sable, the type so often erroneously called, Black Sable. Check all the WL dog ads, on this site, you'll see what I mean. Same with the Blacks. You really think there aren't genetic nightmares out there in the WL just because they are some kind of sable?

Is it that the dogs that offend your GSD spectrum tolerance aren't tested properly to merit your admiration? Could that really be the problem?

thats the quote it should all be based on,,,,,,,,,,,,,on  both sides either the sl's or wl's.....................its that simple

why is it so hard to understand that..............i dot get it.................

eddyelevation.... what are you doing to help the situation? I see many many posts from you on here and curious as to what role your playing to help the situation.

i as much as i dont care for mr. engels obsession with pointing out problems in the breed and the organizatiins surrounding it.... facts are facts. finding a showline capable of dual purpose k9 is slim. What I would be more interested in is what Mr. Engel is doing to promote his ideal of the gsd. I mean lets face it. All your doing is writing down what EVERYONE OF US ALREADY KNOWS. where is the gain jn what your doing ? what do you expect to accomplish witb this book when what you write is known worldwide. How about putting all that effort in lobbying sv/wusv requiring all dogs in the working bszs and national shows be required to have an sg or better rating in a national Ipo trial. You want change do something to promote it. Your book is a joke. Anyone who reads this and actually learns from it is someone who has no impact whatsoever anyways. Might as well be sure to tell us grass is green but when it dies it turns brown.

"what EVERYONE OF US ALREADY KNOWS."

eisenhaus, this has really stuck in my mind and I keep going back and reading it. We all do know it, it's even being repeated by some who do not know the color of the GSD, much less the real meaning of GSD. When all I cared about was another show weekend, I knew that the dog on the end of the leash bore no resemblance to what a GSD should be. I guess the "crux of the problem" as I see it is that a lot of people  want to blame the state of the GSD on someone/something else. It may be simplistic, but if I don't have the GSD I want, it's not the fault of the SV, the Martins, Jimmy Moses, GSDCA or whatever number of wl/sl people there are in the world. It's on me, because the GSD is still available in whatever package one dreams it should be.
