In extremely rare cases, identical twins have been born with opposite sexes (one male, one female). In these cases, identical twin boys are conceived, but, during the twinning process, one twin loses a Y chromosome (boys have chromosome type XY while girls have XX). Without a Y chromosome to trigger the production of male sex hormones , this fetus develops as a girl by default, but a girl with only one X chromosome (chromosome type XO). The co-twin is unaffected, and develops as a boy as normal.

I read this about humans but i haven't been able to find any thing about it with dogs

Cute puppies KinkyKaters.  I have never seen a pit with the ears down.  I think they are nicer looking.

Thanks for the information Dragonfly.

The Avatar pix is not ugly enough to be a Bordeax. Plus tons an tons of red/red nose pits in my area. Though right now we seem to have blue/blue noses by the bucket load.
Good luck with your twins, because they are really cute! And i'm sure the rest of the litter is cute too. Is there a size difference in the twins compared to the rest?

In humans, aren't there other problems associated with XO
girl babies ? If so, wonder if this will prove similar with your
female twin. Maybe she'll request gender re-assignment later ?
LOL. [No, I never heard of it in dogs either; but I
suppose it could well work that way in all mammals ? Maybe
one of our genetics expert posters can tell us]. Fascinating
stuff !

For identical twins, the single egg (after fertilization) divides into two, leading to twins who are identical....these are nature's clones. Identical twins of opposite sex are well nigh impossible, IMO.
