Kathy the Booda boxes keep the litter in and smell down too. They are pretty good. Last year we had an inside cat and I ended up with the electric scooper one. $130 later after all the stuff it required but it was worth it. My daughters cat and I always ended up cleaning up after it when she was away. The electric scooper only needed to be changed about every 5 days. I still have the thing in my garage and no cat. =(

Use hard plastic baby gates put up between the door and jam in the bathroom. Cut a hole big enough for a cat to go through in the plastic grate and the cats can get in and the dogs can not, unless they jump it. In that case, you have far less choice about how to handle this. I am sure everyone knows this is a good way for the dogs to get really ill.

I have 4 Persian cats and I set up a kennel with a roof outside in the back of my house, with access thru a window and down a ramp. I keep the litter box out there, I use the bottom half of a dog crate so I only have to scoop a couple times a day. Keeps the dogs out of it, and the cats LOVE being outside. They love hanging out and watching the dogs romp. Not sure how your set up, but its an idea. It is nice not having a box in the house. I did have three in the beginning but kept removing them as the cats got used to going outside.

You can buy a small "doggie" door that will allow you cats to use but your GSD's will be to large. Most people use these on outside doors but you could install in a bathroom, utility or closet door.
