Supa, before you think about visiting the high school, you need to go to grammar school.Wink Smile

You need to learn the basics, afterwards you may think about your future in the dog world.
You can´t become a writer, if you didn´t learn to read at first.

You own two young dogs, train them in a club, supervised by a knowledgeable trainer, and you may learn to read, afterwards you may learn how to write.

If your dog bites...and there's NO Blood...It DOESN'T Count....!

Supa, you come on here saying you would like to learn but turn right around and try to tell several experienced people who gave you good advice how training should be done( you cannot protection train your own dog). You have people who do this training giving advice and you sound really ignorant with your responses. If you are trying to do your reseach , as you say (Excuse me for being rude) but you need to listen more before you speak. Schutzhund does have sport dogs( I would like to see you come after my dog) but you will learn a lot in watching how they develop in their protection training so it is a good learning enviroment.
Many so called protection dogs who are sold for these high prices will also not protect you. Just because you pay thousands of dollars for a dog does not mean it will do squat!!!

What you want comes from experience. No amount of the internet will do that. Didn't you buy showlines?

Supa...be careful about the opinions that you form from just thinking and not DOING.  Holding the leash of several dogs, being inside the suit or sleeve of many others.

I have taken a retired police dog to Schutzhund 3...and witht he next dog done civil work, Police K9 work and PSA with my Schutzhund dog.  Do not discredit all schutzhund dogs because that is what path their owners chose for them as a hobby

...there are many strong dogs in the sport, some dogs that sport is just all they know and they have been taught to follow the rules of it...some dogs would need only to be shown in training that those behaviors they learned in schutzhund are allowed elsewhere and on different equipment...and on no equipment.  Yes a Schutzhund dog "can" function just in prey...but remember...PREY is the drive that the canine hunts and KILLS in.

A civil or "TRU" dog as you say it...can and maybe even should be "able" to play the schutzhund game...a familiar helper/decoy can be a dogs "sparring partner"....none of this detracts from the dog, IMO maybe even should be more respected.

Maybe schutzhund is not a path that interests you...that's fine,  though it would be in your best interest to learn everything you can about several "fighting styles" and you can find your niche somewhere in between with greater knowledge.

Good luck

and anyone who pays more than 15-20K for a fully trained Dual purpose Police dog OR Personal protection dog...has more money than brains!!

And even that is high...but some people don't want to do any of the work.
