Interesting Hundmutter. I did not know that about the nails. All of Rose's puppies were born with black nails and I was just noting what I had been told previously about Rose's clear nails.

OP, very definitly listen to the other posters. As I noted, my information is only based on what I had been told previously about clear nails and the white spots. No, I do not show and do not know all of the ins and outs on it.

And how do they get away with that with Dobies (with tan feet) ?

Well with dobies the white spots usually aren't on the feet but on the chest.

and as far as the shepherd I wasn't going for facts I was just going for the punch line.

Simon, there is not a dog in the world that doesn't have a fault of some kind. In my opinion, white toes or white spot on the chest are the the most minor fault of them all. Now if it was a whole white foot or a huge white blaze on the chest, that would be different.

I own/have owned import dogs with white spot on chest and/or toes, with all the other things to worry about...those white spots don't bother me in the least.
I would be more focused on hoping the pup has good structure, good health and good temperament when it reaches adulthood (and good drives too if it's going to do schutzhund or other work.)

If a dog is going to be a winner in the show ring, a couple white toes won't hold it back.

The puppy IS cute, and the gsd people here have given good advise. And I can tell you about the Dobermans, the magic markers(black for black dobes, brown for red ones) are great for white hairs caused by scarring. I don't know many show breeders in my area who produce Dobes with white fur patches,,,,ew, I hope not anyway. White comes after say your dog got in a scrap and when the hair grows back in on say a puncture would on the face, it is white. Then a marker works great for that

(There are also powders and chalks you can use and if you apply them right as long as the color doesn't come off on the judges hands, you're usually ok)
