but I am not at all happy about paying so much money for nothing

for nothing, somewhere in their a lesson is to be learned.

See the dog before you buy.

If they refunded money their not totally bad.  Especially when we only hear one side.  Give them credit.

Some people sound like whinny babies

I am sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with the dog you purchases from Von Hayden. I do know that the folks there wew hit with trememdous storm damage the end of June, and are corrently without electric or phone at their home. Major structural damage was done to both house and kennel areas, and many of the dogs are staying with friends right now. It is easy to throw stones and snide remarks, but for those who are, I hope you are never in this kind of crisis. I am not speaking to the origional paster, who has a dog with issues, and is frustrated with the situations, but the board members who have responded might have a bit of compassion, whether they like the kennel or not... Just sayin' be glad it is not you who lost their home.

I don't know how long you had the dog, and I am not convinced there was anything wrong with the dog, just from what you have posted here. I'm guessing you and your family may not have handled the dog's transition into a new home environment appropriately, perhaps from lack of knowledge and experience. It doesn't sound like you have much patience and there is no such thing as an automatic-install program for a live animal.

You got the price of the dog back. This says the seller is not only honest, but CARES ABOUT THE DOG, doesn't want him in a home in which he is not loved. That's HUGE these days, all by itself BTW. Shipping cost is always the responsibility of the buyer, always has been.

Given the tragic consequences of a violent storm, which severly damaged/destroyed the home and property of the seller very recently, your coming on here ranting is not only unsympathetic, but in rather poor taste. If I were still in the dog business, I would avoid doing business with you on account of that.

ShellyR read the OP's second post on the first page. They only had that poor dog for a week. Hardly long enough for any older dog to get used to a new enviroment.

Shelley, to be fair, this is NOT the first time issues have come up involving this breeder--just sayin', there always seems to be one catastrophe or another that precludes the breeder meeting with their customer's expectations.  Frankly, if I had the amount of 'bad luck and misfortune' that this breeder appears to be cursed with, I think I'd get out of any kind of activity involving customers...

Maybe they should change their kennel name to "von Btfsplk" [see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Btfsplk ]:

To be honest I haven't kept track of breeders for a couple of years, but I guess I tend to be more empathetic these days than I used to when it comes to disasters and tragedies.

It was the right thing for Von Hayden to take their dog back AND refund the money. The dog just wasn't the right fit .That dog will probably work out better for someone that is willing to understand an older displaced dog and is willing to spend some time working the dog into their home. And this is different than those dogs that are sick from the start and end up dying

I don't know anything about von Hayden. I don't know anything about the OP. What I'm about to say is GENERAL.

If I were concerned about a dog so much that I didn't want to keep him because of temperament or treatment he received previously (neglect, it sounds like), I wouldn't be sending him back where he came from. I'd eat the financial loss, find him a home capable of dealing with his issues (sounds like a typical kennel dog from a breeder who is overwhelmed and neglectful) and sleep at night knowing he's better off for meeting me, though I didn't keep him. I hear it all the time, but I can't help it. When someone complains about the condition they received a dog in and sends the dog BACK THERE in exchange for money, it turns my stomach. I fail to see how the person sending an innocent animal back into a situation they feel is neglectful or abusive in exchange for a refund is any better than the seller.

Poor dog,,,

bad to send the dog back, but bad to reward the seller also.  Its a lose-lose-if the seller gets to keep the money, they will keep getting dogs to sell.
