Interestingly enough, two days ago I received this email. The author was actually referencing an earlier post of mine in a different thread, but it seems appropriate to post it here. "Hi I read your post. I am sorry to email for some reason my computer's security will not let me log onto the GSD site. I have a wonderful dog from Kirschental also. She is wonderful. I have known them for several years and they are good honest people. I have had two dogs from them and never had any problem. I cannot believe the expense the American breeders are selling their puppies for. You are correct by the time you really read the American's contract their is no hip guarantee unless crippling dysplasia if even that much of a guarantee. I will always buy from Karl and Marion. I wish there was a way you could post this for me. Thank you" Some minor qualification is necessary. I believe my initial posting on the subject claimed that many of the American breeders' guarantees were substantially worthless and that many prices charged here were exorbitant. I do try to make an effort not to paint everyone in a large group with the same brush, even when I generalize to make a point, and absent some context it would seem that I was condemning all American breeders, which I was not. But I think the emailer's main point was to laud Marion and Karl.

p59 hope your not trying to lump all breeders in America as being the same? Both good honest people are in America and all over the world. That's why you have to do your homework.

Hi, Karl is a highly recommended breeder here in Germany. Defnitly, they are honorable and trustworthy peopel. We have a Kirschental puppy at our dogtrainingplace and the little bugger is a pleasure to watch and to see her grow. Also, a very good friend of mine has a Kirschental female (Yasko daughter), and she is superd and a very good breeding female. I believe that many of these fights, accusations and all that stuff are a result of bad communication. There are a lot of honest & good breeders here, they might just not be known. As to the remark, taht you would get "higher quality" at a breeder in the US, because you can pick, oh well if you believe in it, its fine with me. I always think, its very hard and rolling the dice to make out which puppy at 7 weeks will be the future star ! Giggles, i wish you the best luck in picking out a pup and hopefully you will have a good companion ! Greetings Ulli

I wish I owned a Kirchental and would buy one sight unseen with no hesitation.

>>hope your not trying to lump all breeders in America as being the same? Both good honest people are in America and all over the world. That's why you have to do your homework. desertrangers: absolutely not! My late Otto was from Wynthea Kennels, and Wynn Strickland had as good a reputation as any breeder could possibly have - interestingly, she was someone with whom Karl and Marion Fuller dealt extensively. And there are plenty of American breeders on this site who certainly appear to be straight shooters who do their best to treat their customers fairly. That's why I wrote the last paragraph, so as to clarify. My original post that the person emailed me about did discuss what I believed to be ridiculous prices being charged by SOME American breeders were charging for VA and V-sired pups. I'm talking about $3,500 and $4,500 for pups out of Dux de Cuatro Flores, plus $500 shipping. My pup Orbis vom Kirschental out of Dux set me back less than $1,850 including shipping, and the shipping portion of the total cost would have been about $125 less than that if I'd gotten him at 8 weeks and not at 3.5 months. And the kicker is that the Kirschental bitch who is his mother is more "distinguished" - if that's the right way to put it - than the dams of the "ultra-priced" pups, since she was rated V-1 and V-2 at consecutive Sieger Shows in the HGH class and has an HGH working title. I also noted that while the German breeders don't provide guarantees for their pups, some - not all, but some - of the guarantees I've seen from American breeders are utterly worthless and appear designed to do two things: a) provide a potentially false sense of security about the pup you're getting and thus serve as an inducement to buy, and b) insulate the breeder from any liability if they do screw you over. I mean, how the hell can anyone guarantee "temperament," when the obvious out for any breeder is to say "he was fine when he left here, YOU must have screwed him up!" And then there are "25% restocking fees" and the like should you not be happy with your purchase. As an attorney, I DO feel qualified to discuss those issues.

Thanks for reply P59. I would suggest alot of kennels sell very good quality pups but the problem seems to be if they sell a lower to poor quality pup to someone as "Show" quality or top quality when the pup should have been sold or given to someone as a pet and fixed so it could not be bred.
