Good ideas. Keep them coming.

remione1,

Who's to say the pups are average? I imagine they are for sale because that's what breeders do (who keeps them all?)

I bought a pup without knowing the pedagree (or even caring really, to be honest) until I saw how exceptional he was and wanted to know more about where he came from.

Now I highly doubt I will ever take Shadow to that level, but given the money and the time, I believe he could come close if I applied him and myself.

And I can tell he has those traits. (even tho it is his grandfather (Vegas))

How about this as a BARE minimum?
Anyone advertising a litter provide
proof of hips/elbows being rated on
the sire and dam?

Obviously not every country requires
working titles, but hip/elbow clearances
could be the very bare minimum you
could ask for here.

At some point it's up to the buyer to do
some research on their own, but if you
can put some minimal standards in place,
it would eliminate a lot of those 'pennysaver'
ads for litters we see here.

Perhaps anyone listing more than __ litters
in a calendar year can pay a small fee?
Same as dogs, list more than __ and you
can pay a small fee?

Just my 2 cents worth.

Now I wonder why there are so many people on here & other sites talking about the diminishing German Shepherd Dog with so many exceptional pups being sold.
I made my comment as more sarcasm but lets get into this topic.

I've only been involved with working dogs for about 2.5 years. Studying, asking questions, & trying to see as many dogs as possible working. Studied for months before I chose my first pup & still defered to training partners for their opinions.

I do understand that breeders embelish thier dogs & throw the catchy phrase of the day on them for people like you who don't do thier homework (not a knock, you said it) but really why? If your dog is all those things you say he/she is why not just say "For sale, xxx amount of dollars, & links to videos, pedigrees. No need to be a car salesman, let the dog sell itself IF it's so exceptional. Even with my novice eye I can tell from a video if I want to get further info about the dog.

I think they say those things for the people who don't do their homework & just buy the flashy words. A suckers born every minute, right?

Just curious..... what made you buy your dog without researching him? Again not a knock just curious. You said that he can be a high level dog & you see traits that his Grandfather Vegas passed down to him. I assume that if you see all this in him you have alot of experience with dogs, gsd showlines, & or Vegas yet you bought a dog without research.......

Well thanks for all the comments, I have yet to sell a dog or pup directly of the classified adds but will agree with the Admin here. The internet exposure you get from a classfied add on the PDB is very good it increases my web traffic by a great deal. Thanks PDB

hahahaha remoine that's true! VA-3 CHAMP, um where is this in it's pedigree? I'm sorry, but if you breed your dog just because 3 generations back there is a titled so-and-so, but nothing in between, then you're not helping the breed at all. You're in it to make money.

As for Admin, I'm for having to show proof of hip/elbow testing to post ads on here. I just posted about someone who keeps posting on here, who breeds her dogs under age 2, with no genetic testing, no hip scores, no elbow scores, no titles. All the pictures of the dogs are outside in the dirt, chained up, some are skinny, some have hair loss, some have eye issues.

If one looks at the dogs listed on the pdeigree database, and do lots searching, you just might find some dogs boasting better hips then stated on this page. This database is what it is, user based, and can must rely on the users to be truthful. If a buyer is truly interested in purchasing, breeding or researching one must be very careful.

I have connected with breeders who I then bought from and sellers on this site. Both were excellent experiences, because I am capable of doing my homework, both ways.

Crooks are everywhere, don't blame the website.

Not sure why everyone is so hung up on titles in the pedigree, the ansewer I come up with is they dont know how to choose a dog otherwise. A good trainer will acheive a title on a week dog, a very solid dog with a lack luster trainer will fail. These are not my opinions but facts

To my best reckoning, I have never sold or purchased a dog through this website. Charging would sure clear up the total number of classified posts to filter through (which is far too many, and lacking more useful search information besides "location"). But there are numerous websites that charge already, and are still not able to offer any better exposure, apparently. I say charge, and make applicants fill form-boxes that will help with the prospective buyers search criteria, with information such as the hip and elbow ratings and registration numbers of the parents, prices, tattoo or microchip numbers, etc. Maybe a fine for using "TOP" or "EXTRA" in the description. Bastages.
