Yeah getting those prongs fitted in the right spot to close the collar, can really suck with cold tired hands.

Anybody know where I can buy some of the Sprenger prong collars? I am in USA

Try the internet, I'm pretty sure that's where I got Blitz's. The Sprengers might come in 2 different styles, with and without the snaps, I've forgotten. I have one without the snaps, not a Sprenger, and I hate it.
One word of caution about a prong/pinch, don't ask me how, but sometimes the darned thing can open at one of the links and the collar falls from the dog as just the wrong time. So, don't use it alone, use 2 collars to be on the safe side. I use a small choke just big enought to loop aroundn Blitz's neck with no dead or live ring. I then hook the snap of the lead on both of those rings AND the live ring of the Sprenger. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense, can't describe at any other way.

Good ideah Blitz, as I have had that happen. Nothing like holding a empty leash, as your dog bounds away...

Blitzin--I've always snapped my leash onto the regular collar as a precautionary measure, too. As a matter of fact, a friend bought one of the quick release prong collars and the snap didn't hold--so I opted for the old fashioned method of removing the collar by pinching a prong. I see now that they have newer versions---maybe I'll give one a try.
gsdlvr2--
Go to the leerburg site (www.leerburg.com) and you'll find pictures of a doberman being fitted with a prong collar. Good illustration. They sell the prongs, but are expensive---especially if you don't know what size you'll be happy with. Getting involved with a quick- release stainless steel can be costly.
I purchased mine at www.gundogsupply.com (3.25, large). The price is good, but only basic selection available. At their prices, you can pick up a couple of sizes and try them out. I also bought three extra prongs for each size. Herm Sprenger makes a nice product.
