I believe that was Daphne posting as Rin Tin Tin. She has posted on the board before (in the General Topic area) and she also has entered some of the Rin Tin Tin pedigree information here.

I feel that's like asking if any working german shepherd can be a therapy dog...

It is interesting that this bloodline has been perpetuated. I wonder if any of the charactristics of the original Rinty have carried through to today's dogs. The first Rinty was a rather dark sable and from what I can tell was a truly amazing dog. The lack of pigmant in the dogs on the website bugs me though.

When I looked at the some of the pedigrees on your site, many of the dogs in the pedigrees just say "x-rayed", no OFA and no OVC (what is that, by the way?) but perhaps those were dogs you didn't own but simply appeared in the pedigree, as I did not see them on the OFA database either. Out of curiosity, when a puppy you sell does not pass OFA, do you offer full replacement or must the buyer return the puppy?

Again, awesome on the work with kids. That's great.  Does this mean the high puppy prices are being put toward funding this charity work and the donation (this what I assume you mean by "placing") of pups to therapy and assistance? Is so, I guess I can understand that, does that mean a purchased puppy is tax deductible, like when someone gets a puppy from a charity auction? Do you have an average sell/donate ratio for your litters?

Sunsilver, great questions. The GSDs inherent protectiveness can sometimes make them inappropriate for certain types of service work. Service GSDs in our society today must be verrrrrry mellow which can conflict with the original standard for temperament and workability.  Now in a litter you may have one or two lower drive pups in a litter of medium drive puppies that could be suitable for such work. To specifically breed out the drives for that purpose I feel does a disservice to the breed.

What are some of the current films/TV appearances? I'd be interested in seeing them move around, work, etc.

Not sure if you're saying the first "Rinty" as in the very first Rin Tin Tin? But if I'm correct "Rinty" Is a name of one of the pups, but not the very first dog named Rin Tin Tin. "Rinty" is one of the sons of Rin Tin Tin IV, somewhere around 1954.

Rin Tin Tin was one of two pups acquired during World War I, 1918, in France by a Corp. L. Duncan. After the war one pup died and the one survived was Rin Tin Tin.

Well I call the original one Rinty instead of Rin Tin Tin. If that is wrong then sue me I guess. I thought that was a nickname.

This is the RIN TIN TIN I was referring to. www.google.com/imgres

Quite a good looking dog compared to his relatives today.

Nah, can't sue you, don't want your money. Just going off your comment. "Rinty" is a name of the pup in '57, relax, no problem.

Sportsschguy,

I think that may be a picture of Rin Tin Tin Jr.

Jeez people...........

My research indicates that the original was alive from 1918-1932. The pic is dated 1925. The vehicles in the pic would support that claim I think. If that info is correct then that "should" be the original.

BTW I did read where the original was called Rinty. I can't say for sure 100% as I was not alive then and did not know all parties involved.

The original Rin Tin Tin and Rin Tin Tin Jr. are probably the darkest of all of them.   Both nice looking dogs.
