This was not the best helper work either. Sleeve very thight on the body, and then he was swinging the stick right over the sleeve almost preventing a rebite. The dog goes confidently into the decoy, but misses. Looks a bit like the decoy turned a tad to early. That the dog did not reengage could be related to a possible training issue: like dog had been thaught to stay off the sleeve if the stick is presented right over it preventing the dog from getting dirty; and now that the decoy presented the swinging stick right by the bite zone (willing or not) the dog stood away. Basically the dog had been thaught not to engage the sleeve when the stick is directly over the bite zone. Just elaborating on my thoughts.

Dogs get hurt and don't tell anybody. Dogs get sick and don't tell anybody. Dogs have bad days just like any other creature. Its the end of the dog as far as top competition, but I wouldn't necessarily dial him out of the gene pool for one bad performance.

Elkoor I agree with you, to me the dog didn't really look that scared. He looked great coming into bite. But when he missed, he seemed confused & almost playful. I didn't see a temperament fault.

Elkorr i agree with the sleeve tight but i think its just the angle makeing it look like he has the stick in the bite zone. This is also a reason why i like PSA so much more than, schh. decoys intentionally shove stuff in the dogs mouth, obstruct the bite zone, fight the dog, put much more real pressure on them. So you see things like this much more often because it pushes the dog to preform a little more.

cp hudson this doesnt look to me like play. ears down, tail tucked so far up his butt its touching his chest confused frantic behavior. I Beleive he got ran legitimately. I would like to see a few more seconds on the ends of that clip though.

I dont get how this can be passed off as decoy error or dog playing. Protection is meant to be to test a dog to protect or apprehend. This dog should not be ran for any reason i dont care if the decoy was hitting him he better engage him. The fact that he was- shows 1 of two things. insufficient training and or poor genetics. one of the two or both. The only reason I would accept from my own dog is severe injury. such as a ripped out k9 or something. which could be what happened who knows. However this dog obviously showed a vital flaw and showed that in a real protection scenario it has a big percentage of possible failure.

Only things i would nail a decoy on is flinching/turning early, jamming the dogs, or inconsistant working of dogs in same scenarios.
