I buy from my local independent feed store unless I need something on a Sunday. Their prices are equal to or less than anywhere else. I fed the Costco Salmon recipe when I lived near a Costco. I was pleased with the results. But when I moved up to Sutter County, CA, I went back to TOTW, for which I pay $42. + tax for 30 lbs.
Yeah, its not really within my meager budget, but I do without a few things to see that my 2 GSD's and one Chihuahua (and a very expensive x2b) are well-cared for, get everything they need. I wouldn't pay the kind of prices the OP lists for any commercially prepared dog food, even if I could afford it.

Is it possible you picked up the wrong variety? Nature's Variety Prairie Salmon & Rice comes in a 30# bag and the SRP is $62.99. Nature's Variety Instinct Salmon (grain-free) comes in a 25.3# bag with a SRP of $71.99. If it was Instinct you bought the first time, then you got a good deal!
Nature's Variety offers a 50# kennel bag of the Prairie Beef & Barley or Chicken & Rice for a very reasonable price. You may contact the company directly and find out how to qualify. I could not afford to feed their products to our kennel without the 50# bags.

DANG!
I love Instict dog food, but our Mali has allergies and only does well on Precise or RAW!
I love how she does on it but the price too has gone up UGH!
I get my feed from a holistic store as well as the local feed store. Now more & more
people seem to be picking it up when seeing on the shelf. I learned about this dog food
when the allergies popped up with a google search....
look up nzymes.com
the Precise really worked wonders to the point where we no longer had to seek out a
dermo vet for her!
We also gave her medicated baths 2 times a week for a month & the smell & scratching
went away as well.
I love Precise and no matter how high this food gets, it is either Precise or Raw for us.
I also wonder how her medical condition played into her allergies after she lost her left lung lobe!
I also read up on leaky gut! Either way Precise is the best for us no matter how high it gets
