Update:  I heard back from someone who is very knowledgeable about DE and she said that DE has no effect on gut bacteria, only parasites.

We sprinkle it on the ground around our house and trees to exterminate the carpenter ants we had attacking our home; the pest control company said it kills the ants by slicing their bodies when they crawl over it and I have personally witnessed the ants squirming in agony after crawling through the diatomaceous earth.  I would be extremely cautious about using it internally over a long period of time.

MY vet has used it IN the FEED for his cattle for years. Most ranchers here do

That is who used it first...now dog breeders do.

I use it internally and all over my property..  BUT  it has to say   FOOD GRADE on the sack

IT works nutritionally and as a parasidic.  THe DE is highly composed from Algea and contains minerals you do not get anywhere else and Calcium also..THe mineral content is what enhances the dogs diet .

Using a darker coloured Diatomaceous Earth is similar to using a whole grain bread over white. By choosing  Red Lake Diatomaceous Earth your livestock will benefit from the essential MICRO and MACRO minerals not always available in lighter coloured DEs.

A unique, naturally occurring mineral deposit which typically contains 67% Diatomaceous Earth (skeletal remains of algae) and 33% Montmorillonite (calcium rich volcanic deposit).

Either DE is full of minerals that are needing in our dogs body or a human also.

A neighbor told me three yrs ago to put it in my flowerbeds heavily around my house and trail my hoses up and down the hill as the copperheads will slit their bellies on it..

Humans take it also ...cancer patients have used it to help keep their bodies in better stamina.

I have no fear of it

I know of humans who do take it daily

Perfectly safe. Physical action, not chemical, so no worries about overdose. It ONLY kills things with an exoskeleton, as it kills by puncturing that exoskeleton and they dehydrate and die. I mix it in with all my animal feed- dogs, cats, horses.

Debbie  i've been using it for years. I use it in every meal, whether raw or soaked kibble.
Here in the SW with dry air, you see their stools dry up turning white and pulverize.  Yes, if
I fly falls into the bowl of perma guard, it dies pretty quick thereafter.  Its fossil shells fuel and
its 100% natural.  Originally developed for live stock.

My dogs are still alive and well.  It does not dehydrate them.   Read the link i supplied for more info
as they are the company that came up with it.  They are here in NM.

I purchase it from a store in 50lb bags for $40 -  Your local feed store should be able to order it
for you or an all natural pet food store should know as well.

There was one lady in that store who's homeopath told  her to take it after she had been diagnosed
with parasites herself.   So don't freak out over this stuff over doing it.

You can safely add a heeping table spoon for an adult dog 60lbs and over in every meal.   I use the
same stuff on my plants and tree when the dogs have urinated there too much in summer and it
gets stinky.   Great stuff.

Most all breeders use it now as a prevention for our parasites.

Most do not really  know whether an egg from a popular worm our puppies has can get on your sandwich or your drink and whallah you have them . All you have to do is ingest an egg that somehow got into your food and you have the same parasite and DE is not harsh like Ivemec is.

Ivemec is given to Humans to rid themselves of parasites gotten from our PET

so take two week dose for yourself and you    know you are now parasite free.

I know several breeders that  take it
