It would be good to know the score for a BH. Did you get a written score or verbal, Blackthorn? My dog had her BH when I got her and all I ever saw was that she passed.

It all depends on what you mean by a "title"--to the majority of people using the word, it is a title.
Then semantics aside, the majority of people are wrong. It's a qualification test, not a title, just as the AD is a qualification test and not a title.
You don't get to call yourself a lawyer and put "Esq." after your name just because you have an undergrad degree and aced the LSAT, and you don't get to say your dog is "titled" when he hasn't earned one yet. Simple stuff.

i don't call it a title, just a temperment test

But isn't it true that Schutzhund is a "Temperament Test"?
by Duderino on 21 October 2011 - 17:10
It's a suitability test to evaluate a dog for breeding.

Here's another thing to consider: Is the CGC a title?? I've found some websites where the breeder claims it as an actual title. Of course you can put it after the name of the dog, but it is a certification rather than a "title"? The BH is sort of a more intensive CGC. In the US titles are unnecessary to breed a dog so it's up to the breeder and buyers what, if any, titles/certifications they demand of breeding dogs. The Rally Novice is an official AKC title, however some dogs that get that wouldn't pass the BH as the obedience isn't as strict, everything is done on leash, and there's no real test of temperament other that that the dog can manage to perform in a show setting at least 3 times. The BH probably deserves to be a title as much as the Rally Novice does, but technically I don't think it is. The CGC should not be considered equivalent to a title IMO though.

AKC doesn't allow the CGC designation to be printed in a catalog.

Blitzen there is no scoring to it--it is either pass or fail--it is written in the scorebook as such.

Did a BH this weekend. Everyone was given scores on the obedience part.

This is just the sort of topic to bring up all sorts of silly prejudices. Of course, it's a title. So is a CD, a CGC, a TDI - but they don't mean you should breed your dog, either. In the case of a BH, it is a SchH temperament test -- so it's surely better than nothing, and probably better than a host of low level obedience, agility, and therapy titles. But what you think or feel about it can't change the definition of a title -- something you get when you pass a well defined set of exercises before a certified judge of a recognized organization -- and your paperwork is in order.
