New OT forum rules. - Page 2

Perhaps if you make enough rules and have enough moderators you can create the perfect forum.
Perfect according to the few in power.
Sound familiar ?

GSD Mod....I understand your dilemma.  I certainly see where it can be much.

I do think thought that the new Preston Rule is just a way for those that don;t like what he is saying is to shut him up by finding a rule.  I think some of the stuff said in those threads is far more worse than the creation of the thread.

People have a choice to either post in it or not.  You can't bait anyone who isn't willing to take the bait b/c they lack self control.  I think when someone compalins about "bait" they are really saying that they can't control themselves.  If it is OT then I say let it stay OT without all the moderation.  The threads have gone on so long b/c the people that may complain can't seem to shut up and just let some stuff go.
It's like me going into Wal Mart and complaing about the place everytime I go in just to start a fight or argument instead of going somwhere else.  Grown ass adults...let it go.

I see a lot of that in this thread. This is not about one member. We have moved in the past to shut down the non-stop religious and political posts.

NO ONE is complaining about 3 or 4 or 5 threads, but 14 is overboard and uncalled for all because of what?

Over the last week the numbers in OT have fallen. WHY?

GSD Mod it looks to me from your posting that your mind is already made up.

You have asked for our input. Most don't want any changes and yet you seemed somewhat unconcerned.

Just an observation.

Funny you mentioned how new OT posts have dropped. I thought I remember different Mods in the past posting that Oli is not concerned with the number of hits the site gets, so I'm wondering how that info would play into this scenario.

It was not off topic, it parallels my argument with yours..
You simply don't like the implications...But it was
right on target...and you could not bare the scrutiny.
You need to leave things as they are if it pertains to the topic.
That would be the reversed side of following the Terms of service.
Which apply to you as well. Why is it, if it is not an insult or
degrading remark it is considered not on topic?

I never saw the need for an off-topic forum on a dog board in the first place, as there are plenty of other places on the internet to discuss politics, religion, music etc.

But if you're going to have it, then I think you have to live with all of the consequences, including serial posting of conspiracy theories, endless posts about marginal politicians, etc. etc. etc.

Why do I feel stupid reading here sometimes ... how can you even ask WHY ?? LOL

Nobody is trying to silence anybody.  The issue is the limited space on the first page of the OT Forum.  How exactly is anyone "stifled" by limiting their posts having  to do with one topic to 5 threads?  How is it fair to everyone else if one person floods the first page with all their threads about basically the same thing? How is it fair if a person starts a thread only to have someone else with their own agenda hijack that thread?  

The reason this has even came up is the multiple complaints people have sent to us.  The same thing happened when some people started to flood the OT forum with religious threads.  People complained to us about it.  We are trying to find a solution that's fair to everyone.


   

No my mind is not made up. I do think something needs to be done. This has been talked about in the mod forum since July 16th and I resisted making any changes, in hopes it would run its course. I decided to make changes after reading how this is being done to bring out the bullies and to me that is a problem.

No it has nothing to do with revenue, but has to do with the amount of people participating in OT.

At this point I see 2 ways-either use the on-topic TOS or make changes to the existing OT rules. Again, this is not about any one person as we have had to deal with this in the past with 2 different members, but we decided to deal with those members without rule changes, but every 3 months I am not going to be dealing with this same issue over and over.

The OT forum is not one persons playground and any one person should not use it as such. When I got Oli to make all these changes, he said if we have problems we can always take the OT off.   I would hate to see that happen.  FYI, had it not been for my insistence we would not even have an OT area, we had and still have mods who are strongly against the OT forum.

I see all these armchair mods know the reason for the decline in numbers, but not one of you have posted the reason, but you have used my comment to poke fun. So, lets hear your reasons why the numbers are falling.
