I will respond once more on Volan. Having had a full brother (the X litter), having talked with the owners of the late sire of these X & V litters von der Daelenberghutte, & knowing the current owner of Volan, I would not hesitate to get a pup from him or willingly send a bitch to Landis, HOWEVER, she has clearly stated why she does not intend to breed to outside bitches. It is her choice. I don't think it where she lives...I think she would do the same if she lived anywhere else. She has bred this male to some very very nice bitches that she owns & frankly if anyone would like something of Volan inquire to these breedings. She will freely talk about him and answer everything you ask.

I am still sad to think about Xando, Kelly. I still can't believe you lost him so young and so tragically, same as I lost his sister Xohra. I know how much you loved that dog, ever since I imported him for you. I am glad that Dutch is able to at least bring you some joy, though I know he will never fill the void, as he is just a different dog. But he is a good boy and I knew you'd love him, just as you loved Xando but differently. What did you notice about Xando as a dog and in his breedings that impressed you the most? I know what it is with Volan, am just wondering how similar the brothers were in the things they passed on that impressed us, and the things about the dogs that impressed us. Xohra was, I know, so similar to Xando. Remember the doorknob incident? That was too funny. Robbers thought twice about breaking in after seeing that bitch chew off a doorknob to get at them, boy did they run. Hehehehe. And yet you would trust her with a toddler. Very nice bitch, but her life was too short, brain tumors, very sad. Just like old Xando...all too short.
Volan, on the other hand, hops around like a hyper 4 year old. He looks like he will live forever, though I am too well aware that he won't. I am planning on having him collected this summer. And I am realy looking forward to his upcoming litters. The one with Engel should be interesting, to say the least. I already know the one with Denali will be nice, as it is a repeat and the first one was super. Chess should do very well with him also, as Finess, her mother, produced really awesome little pups with Volan. ..I have one now, the firecracker (or terrorist, depending on my mood!). But I am definitely interested in seeing the linebreeding on the X and V litters! Belschik and Rani brought together in a linebreeding on their two best litters. Engel has filled out, matured and you see so much of her parents in her now, instead of that gawky eternally adolescent Engel, that stage I thought would last forever ut finally ended with a graceful bitch emerging. I know that Optikas Dark was a result of basically the same breeding as I am doing with Engel and Volan, Xamm to a Vicky Daughter, and that litter has great health and already has some older pups on the ground, also doing well. So, I am hoping for equal quality. Time will tell, as it always does.

I miss him everyday. I'm very thankful for the time we spent together. Of course not a day goes by that I wished he was still here. To me he had the qualities a very well bred German Shepherd should always have. He was not a titled dog, but as you know I was very specific in what I wanted. He had to be excellent with family & children, guarded with strangers, quiet in the house, & a real threat to those not welcome in my home or on my property. Like your doorknob incident with Xohra I had a like situation. I had my nephews over for the weekend...mother was to come and pick them up. Now Xando had seen her only once before & didn't know her. Instead of knocking on the door she just proceded to walk on in. Xando flew at the door & gave her 1/2 a second to slam the door in his face. He took his job very seriously. I have no doubt that if an intruder wanted to gain entry they would've had to do it thru him, after all it was a daylight home robbery that sent me on a search for a security dog. If I would have answered the door, told him it it was ok, he would have been ok. He guarded my vehicle well also. And let no one near the kids that were angry, menacing, etc.!! He would have none of it. He was easily called off, gave good warning, and kept a very close eye on his people. He was also a social boy when told it was ok. He had good full grips & was not equipment oriented. He also passed this to his offspring. He gave good character, pigment, structure, & coat. Most of his progeny are working on cattle ranches and guarding their people & homes. I think that in itself has something to say as we have alot of Border Collie & ACD fans here. Unfortunately having lost him so young I was not exactly looking for his replacement, thus I never kept back anything from him.
I am definitely looking forward to the linebreeding on the X & V litters. I think anyone that has or have had these dogs know the level of seriousness they can bring, but also stay clear, & focused on the handlers. They also know how to make up their own minds when needed. I wish you much luck and long life with Volan. I'm sorry for such a short life with Xohra. I knew exactly how you felt losing her. RIP to both of them.
