I was recently researching a breeding pair I was interested in and the breeder's website advertised the litter as OFA Good HD/ED. The OFA database shows nothing for sire and only hips for dam and they were OFA FAIR. The breeder said they requested normal results be withheld from public database. I didn't believe the breeder, so I spoke to the OFA representative and the breeder is not being honest because the representative searched for that dog both name and AKC numbers and it was confirmed the dog has not passed OFAs or has never been submitted.

What I've ran into is a dog (usually male) that had OFA pre-lims done close to two years but not quite... let's say 20 months because the owner wanted to breed him early. Because it is nearly 2 years, they don't redo them provided they passed the pre-lims as they are practically certain they would pass if officials are done and consider it good enough... some even adding the results to the PDB or their website. I understand that THEY think they would be wasting ~ $250 to redo it all, BUT if I were looking for a stud dog I would pass on theirs even if they could show me the OFA pre-lim papers as I'd rather it be official (that way it goes on the pedigrees and can be looked up on OFA's site). IF others feel as I do and don't use the stud because of this, then really they aren't saving money by not resubmitting them, but losing business instead. IMO.

I agree with you on that. I have been cussed out because I politly declined on a sale from a litter that the owner of told me they did not xray the dam because they were afraid it would not pass because she was hit by a car when she was young but that she was not genetically unsound. I told them no thanks but I would have to pass and ever since she cusses me out and is nasty...... just um wow she sold them dont know if she got her price of 2500 each with no x rays or titles one of those well they are ppd and I trained them but I know what I am doing.... but this thread is not about that incident and that breeder.

Actually OFA will put prelims on their website. I used to use GDC, before OFA "absorbed" them. GDC would evaluate dogs as young as 1 year, which worked for me since I prefer to xray before I start serious jumping with the dogs, and I don't want to wait until they are 2. Not after my first Malinois, who turned out to be dysplastic when I finally got her OFA'd, after I'd been jumping her for probably a year. For awhile after they took on GSC they didn't post prelims, but I think enough people pointed out they were reporting GDC results in their database for dogs that were less than 24 months that they changed it because they have reported prelims for a few years now, and dogs who were prelimed prior to the date they changed the rules can have their results reported also, if they fill out some paperwork.

Yes, they will post prelims so long as the dog is 12 months or older. I prelim my dogs' elbows around 9 months when I Pennhip so the prelims never show up.

I sent in Hero's at 17 months (good, normal) but they're not posted. I even tried with his OFA #. I didn't sing in the box so even poor results would have been prosted.

How long ago did Hero's go in? I think they only update the website every few months, I know I've gotten OFA papers back from them and a few weeks later the results still weren't on the website.
If you look for "Pakita du Dantero" (Malinois) though you will see an example of Prelims on the site.

You can always ask the owner for a copy of the OFA paperwork sent to them after hip evaluation.

OFA does not need permission to post passing results, only failures, so at least when it comes to GSDs, when you see a passing elbow score but no hip score, you can pretty much rest assured the dog didn't get a passing hip score. I don't think you will find many GSD people who submit only for elbows.
