Yes a good breeder should have told you.
A wise buyer would always check if looking for breeding potential.
when  I read your original post I thought it said that you had picked up your dog. Sorry that I assumed it was at the breeders.

Yes Laurel but sometimes the dog is shipped and we rely solely on the honesty of the breeder, other times the breeder gives the same spiel as this one did.

Either way, if she bought the dog with full registration some sort of compensation should be given to the  buyer.

Yes, I agree! Very costly misstake I will never make again.

Cinnamon
I am sorry that the breeder you chose was not a good one  Yes when a breeder does ship a dog/puppy then it should be as stated and asked for.
I would hope that the breeder would replace the puppy if that is your what is in your contact.

Many breeders ship and do it right.  Don't let it stop you if you again find the right puppy

To answer the one question you really want an opinion on.....YES, it is the responsibility of the breeder to inform the buyer of any and all issues that are not normal....

Part of this post was misunderstood and deleted by nonacona60 to avoid any farther replies to it....

nonacona60,
Please read my reply again, that part was directed toward someone else (Kerschberger) and if you read his reply he was questioning my knowledge in a very insulting way.  I am very angry at the breeder I know it  is not their fault the testicle didn't drop but it's the response I have gotten from them and their failure to inform me.  I watch this breeder for 2 years before making a purchase from them, read everything I could find on them so the decision to use this breeder was well thought out.  I just wanted unbiased opinions before I contact the breeder this time.  Sorry for any misunderstandings.

Ok, cinnamongirl, Than I apologize also for the misunderstanding.......I know your furstrations because I bought a puppy last year and at 6 months old the one testicle had not decended........I will not go into detail on here because MY dog is not the topic....But I mentioned it so you know you are not alone.....

If you want more details, PM, I'll let you know about our experiences with undecended testicles.....

Did you purchase a "pet" or show potential?  Alot of people buy a "pet" and then are upset when it has a fault.  In this case a missing berry.  A good breeder will tell you that your pup had this fault.  However if the puppy was sold as a pet your puppy guarantee will not cover this.  If you bought a breeding potential pup your breeder should replace your puppy for you.  The cost between a pet and show pup is often close to double or more.

edited to say that alot of people sell pet pups with full registration.   I am asking if the pup was purchased as a show dog.  A pet will have no guarantee on this but the breeders SHOULD have mentioned it , if the dog was a show pup not a schutzhund prospect. A good breeder will give you back the difference on the price of the pup if you dont want to send him back to the kennel.  So if you paid  3,000 for your show pup and the breeder sells his pets for 1500 then he should refund the difference.  Hope this makes sense

The puppy was purchased for Schutzhund, but they knew I was going to breed him after I title him provided he was breed worthy.

He was a very expensive puppy, the breeders know his testicle has not dropped.  Should I confront them or let it go?

" I don't know of anyone who would put that much money, time and effort into training a schutzhund dog without being able to breed."

There is something seriously wrong with this statement and it doesn't suprise me really considering it's show lines.

Cinnamongirl,

I'm not picking on you, but have you considered some people participate in dog sports for fun, the challange or the thrill of competition? Just because your dog gets a Sch. title it doesn't automaticly make it breed worthy.

I still agree that the condition if known should have been disclosed, but give your head a shake please.
