Don -- I was just responding in the same manner (sarcastic) as your post.   I took your post as being sarcastic about Nona's question / Thread.   If I misinterpreted the meaning of your comment, then I apologize.

Maggie, no need to ever apologize. I don't take much personally on here.

Funny that the Internet Einsteins who want to talk the big show about how much they know about German Shepherds and their working ability know nothing about the history of the work that was developed specifically for the breed.

VPG (Vielseitigkeitspruefung für Gebrauchshunde) is the name given for the working dog test that is practiced by the DVG (http://www.dvgamerica.com/).  It has nothing to do with conformation as DVG is not a conformation organization but a working dog organization.  It is basically the same as SchH or IPO but is governed in Germany by the DHV which is governed by the AZG which is governed by the VDH which is governed by the FCI.  VPG is the all breed working title practiced in Germany while IPO is the International working program practiced by FCI member organizations around the world.

MEGO - "My Eyes Glaze Over"

With all the acronyms, I thought I was reading something published by the Government.

In response to political forces in Germany, in 2004 the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) and the Deutscher Hundesportverein (DHV) made substantial changes to Schutzhund. The DHV adopted the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) rules that govern IPO titles, so that at least on paper the SV and DHV gave up control of the sport to the FCI. The DHV changed the name of the titles from "SchH" (Schutzhund) to "VPG" (Vielseitigkeitsprüfung für Gebrauchshunde which roughly translates Versatility examination for working dogs). The SV has retained the "SchH" title names, but otherwise conforms to the DHV/FCI rules.

To all of you who responded to the OP question with a genuine desire to be helpful, or a sincere comment,  I thank you....and to all the rest of you, well, I would expect nothing less of you.....  I also thank the ones who responded in PMs........

YogiBear, No prob...Glad I could help you also by posting this thread.....

.I can understand why some people would prefer not knowing instead of posting a question here to be made a fool of...Personally I don't care .......I actually did google it before I posted it, but thought it would be a VERY good topic to post here...So that is why I actually posted.......I usually don't google things that I know I can get the answers to from AWESOME SINCERE people on this forum....Too bad there is a handful that has to ruin it.....

VP and G are conformation ratings but not together so if it was in front of a dog's name I would assume it refers to the VPG/SchH title.

Duderino, thank you for the full blown version. I am a DVG member and my version was very condensed for simplicity sake. Vickie
